USF announced Sunday afternoon that HC Charlie Strong has been relieved of his duties.


Strong has been fired after three seasons at USF, but the news does not come as a surprise. His tenure got off to a strong start, as the Bulls went 10-2 and finished the 2017 season ranked 21st in the final AP Top 25 poll. But it was all downhill from there, with the Bulls ending the 2018 season on a six-game losing streak to finish with a 7-6 record. USF, which was hit hard by injuries on the offensive side of the football, finished the 2019 season with a 4-8 record.

Program was nothing after Levitt/ Holtz. If Levitt doesn't go Patton on the kid in the locker room they're still legit.

Holtz kept them relevant.

Taggart rode Holtz's coattails tona big contract, Strong just left picking up the pieces.

Not sure why, but I really can't think of an actual PROGRAM being built, maintained and administered by an African American since Denny Green @ Stanfird.

They always seem to ride coattails then leave.

If you ever watched his pressers, he didn't have any clue about his opponents week to week. He would just make up stuff like calling a speedy receiver a big physical guy. He didn't know who opposing QB was or whether he could run or not. Just glaring lack of preparation every week

Surprising to see Charlie not succeed at USF. He was at UL 4 years and showed steady improvement YOY having great years in 2012 and 2013. If you look at his first recruiting class when he became UL’s coach, it’s extremely impressive how he and his staff evaluated talent and how many guys were drafted and played in the NFL (not necessarily highly related guys). He heavily recruited FL, which is why I thought he would build a strong roster at USF. He had Flowers initially at USF who was great, at UL he had Teddy B, wish he would have found that QB to take over after Flowers to build around for 3 years. I thought Texas was a horrible fit, but thought he would do well at USF which would lead to a HC job, possibly in the SEC. Assume now he will be a defensive coordinator, which he will do well in, but it’s unfortunate to see how he was thought of 6 years ago to now being fired by USF.

He was a grad assistant when I played at UF. Good guy, good DC but not a good head coach. Some folks aren't meant to head coach. Hell, a lot of folks aren't meant to head coach. The 2 most important positions in football is Head Coach and QB. If you don't have 1, you can forget about the other.

barnett wasnt great or anything and he went down early 2nd string freshman and not ready so have to rely more on run game defense not really that good hard to win when u have qb struggles causes defense to be on field too long

Charlie just had to do it his way. He either could not learn, or refused to try anything that he did not know. I have no idea what happened to him at USF, but he really under performed in his last 18 games there, going 4-14 in those games. I think the firing at Texas got to him mentally. He was going to prove to the world that he was the greatest after Texas got rid of him. He still is a good defensive assistant coach, but he is a terrible head coach. The Highway won out against old "My way or the Highway" Charlie.
