ARI - RB David Johnson made push to play Week 7
Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban
Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (ankle) started in Week 7 in large part because he wanted 'give playing a shot,' but head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Johnson didn't feel right after a couple plays, leading to Kingsbury' decision to feature Chase Edmonds.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Johnson got the first carry of the game then promptly exited the contest. Edmonds is the hottest name on the waiver wire...unless you already picked him up a couple of weeks ago. The Cardinals are working out running backs this week, so perhaps they'll shut down Johnson completely until he's fully healed.

KC - KC gets (relatively) good news on QB Patrick Mahomes
Source: Kansas City Star - Herbie Teope
Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (knee) underwent an MRI on Friday, Oct. 18.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Good news for the Chiefs here. Head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder provided an update on Monday, Oct. 21, telling reporters Mahomes' injury 'turned out as (well) as we could (have) possibly imagined.' They'll still be without Mahomes for a few weeks (most likely). Veteran Matt Moore will start in his place.

ATL - QB Matt Ryan likely to miss 1-2 weeks
Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter
Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (ankle) is believed to have suffered a high-ankle sprain on his right ankle in Week 7 versus the Los Angeles Rams, according to Dr. David J. Chao, who believes Ryan could miss one to two weeks.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
These type of sprains are known to linger if not given enough time to properly heal. Falcons coach Dan Quinn has not ruled Ryan out for Week 8, noting the quarterback is already running in a pool as part of his recovery. If Ryan is out, the Falcons turn to Matt Schaub as their starter.

CIN - WR A.J. Green may have a shot at Week 8 return
Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson
Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (ankle) will not be automatically ruled out for Week 8, although head coach Zac Taylor told reporters he won't play Green against the Los Angeles Rams unless he can practice in full.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Green is getting closer to a return but there's no clear timetable...because there has never really been one. Many have speculated that Green won't return to the field until after the trade deadline on the 29th of October. We'll see if Green can actually get a full practice in this week. Stash him on your bench if he's out there on the waiver wire.

CAR - Kyle Allen to get another start
Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Carolina Panthers QB Kyle Allen will start at quarterback in Week 8 against the San Francisco 49ers, according to head
coach Ron Rivera.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Cam Newton is not ready to come back just yet. He may or may not start practicing this week as Rivera pointed out. Allen has a tough match against the 49ers in Week 8, so his 4-game streak of being unbeaten may be difficult to continue. If Allen struggles or the team starts to lose, then Newton could be back much sooner.

MIN - WR Adam Thielen expected to miss just one game
Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Ben Goessling
Updating previous reports, Minnesota Vikings WR Adam Thielen (hamstring) underwent an MRI on Monday, Oct. 21, that confirmed much of the optimism reporters heard after the team's Week 7 game. While Thielen will likely miss Week 8 versus the Washington Redskins, he should be fine after that, according to Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Good news for the Vikings here. Without Thielen on Thursday night, Stefon Diggs should be in for an incredibly large workload.

HOU - WR Will Fuller likely to miss several weeks
Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Updating previous reports, Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (hamstring) is expected to miss 'several weeks' after suffering 'a rather significant hamstring pull,' according to a source via NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Fuller is incredibly talented but he's oft-injured. A hamstring injury, especially one this severe, can really limit a speedy receiver like Fuller. The Texans turn to Kenny Stills in his place, and we should see Keke Coutee work as the team's No. 3 receiver with Fuller out.

NO - QB Drew Brees aiming to return this week
Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett
New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) will return to practice this week with an eye on returning for Week 8.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The team is winning with Teddy Bridgewater, so there's no need to rush Brees back especially the way the schedule shakes out. If Brees can't make it back this week, he should be back after the Week 9 bye week.

CAR - QB Cam Newton will not practice
Source: The Athletic - Joseph Person
Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) will not participate in practice this week and will work with the trainers on the sidelines. Head coach Ron Rivera said he is not sure if Newton will travel with the team for the Week 8 game.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Newton would face Tennessee in Week 9 if he gets the start. It sounds like the team is taking it extremely slow with him, which makes sense since they are undefeated since Kyle Allen took over. Most expect Newton will be the starter as soon as he is healthy.

OAK - Oakland works out RB C.J. Anderson
Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates
Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Lions) recently worked out for the Oakland Raiders.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Raiders don't have a true between the tackles grinder behind Josh Jacobs. Anderson fits that role. With running back injuries starting to pile up, Anderson should be signed somewhere soon.

WAS - RB Adrian Peterson does not practice
Source: Redskins.com
Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson (ankle) did not participate in practice Monday, Oct. 21. The Redskins did not hold an official practice Monday, so this is an estimation.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
He apparently had an MRI on the ankle and is awaiting results. Even if he can go on Thursday, he's not a good play against Minnesota. The Washington backfield could be down their top three backs against the Vikings.

ATL - RB Ito Smith a no-go for Week 8
Source: The Athletic - Jason Butt
Atlanta Falcons RB Ito Smith (concussion) was ruled out by head coach Dan Quinn for Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, Oct. 21.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Smith didn't do much in Week 7 before he was concussed. The Falcons will use Brian Hill as a backup to starter Devonta Freeman.

CLE - RB Kareem Hunt allowed to practice
Source: ClevelandBrowns.com - Nick Shook
Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt (abdomen) has been cleared by the NFL to rejoin the team and begin practicing with them Monday, Oct. 21.
[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Hunt is still suspended, but the NFL is allowing him to return to practice two weeks before he is reinstated. He has spent this time recovering from sports hernia surgery while suspended. Hunt will be a backup to stud running back Nick Chubb upon his return. His workload is unknown as Chubb is one of the bright spots for the Browns offense. Add Hunt in deeper leagues as an 'in case of emergency' stash.
