California passes law that allows college athletes to get paid

    Goes into effect in 2023.

Players can get paid based on the usage of their name, image and likeness.

Other colleges better follow suit, otherwise USC, UCLA and all the other Ca colleges are going to be stacked.

    3rd thing

how much control does NCAA have over TV networks ?? Deciding who can and cannot play on TV

You think Networks would fight for USC risk losing ND, OSU , Clemson and Alabama

Several ADs across the country have indicated they will not schedule a Cali team beginning in 2023 out of fear the game will not be authorized under the NCAA umbrella of rules. Many of these schedules are made years in advance so we could see most Cali teams playing other Cali teams that year and beyond.?.?

I going to bet this gets resolved before Cali teams are banned from Bowls, Tournys, and championships.

Arizona State football coach Herm Edwards told ESPN in August that he's not certain how he feels about the concept of college athletes making money in general, but hopes that other states would act to make sure California didn't have a different set of rules. Edwards, who competes against four California universities in the Pac-12 Conference, said the ability for athletes to make money would create a major recruiting advantage for schools in the Golden State.
"I would think that they would have to give it to the [entire] Pac-12," Edwards said. "You would hope it's not just the state of California with that policy."

The left has good intentions but this will damage amateur athletics across the board.

It's about time someone is doing something to help people pursue their rights to make money off of their own likeness.
Sure the NCAA will challenge in court but they have a losing argument so in the next couple of years the NCAA will have to rewrite its standards to allow students to make money off of themselves. It doesn't mean that they will be paying players, but the players can get compensation from endorsement deals. This is actually a good thing.

NCAA is setting up a large discrimination lawsuit if they punish Cali im guessing. My stance is these players are adults producing revenue for the NCAA without compensation. Its not right. Not like they distribute the earnings to the universities to improve educational opportunities or lower tuition costs. They just want their profits. Id love to see the NCAA take a hit to their bottom line.

Just officially signed into law by gov of California. Starting in 2023, college athletes can make as much money as they want off endorsements, video games, merchandise, etc.

NCAA says if law isn't changed, all Cali universities( which include historical giants like USC, Stanford, UCLA, the Rose bowl) will be banned.

Gonna be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

NCAA is already working on this and was planning to roll out something soon with implementation by 2021. They had asked Cali to wait on their new law until they could come up with their plan. I guess Cali decided not to wait and is forcing NCAA's hand.

My guess is either NCAA will adopt the Cali plan or something simliar OR Cali will adhere to whatever NCAA comes up with.

If they don't compromise together, as everyone has indicated ... Deepest pockets will get best athletes and NCAA as the "governing body" will no longer exist.

NCAA has already said it will ban all Cali schools unless law is changed.

This is a losing battle for the NCAA. There is a large wave of pro-pay, anti-NCAA sentiment that has steadily built over the years. Soon this law is going to be established naton-wide and NCAA will have no choice but to accept it.

They are compensated with tuition and room and board free. They agree to the stipulations when signing to play so they have no legit argument especially now that the XFL will accept anyone over 18.

Greed is going to eventually do all of them in. Everyone is greedy as hell, the universities, pro sports teams, athletes, tv networks, sponsors, etc, etc. Everyone wants more, more, more cash at the expense of the sport.

This. Whether you think it looks good on paper or not, the landscape of college sports will be forever changed starting in 2023. I suspect college sports will take a turn for the worst overall.

I love that , but time they get pay . California was always most intelligent state in the union !! Jeopardizing there well being playing collage sports and not get pay ?? Bringing millions of dollars to schools and institutions of higher education not get pay ?? Its high time for them to get pay !! YES !! Let them have a nice things and cars , yes they deserve it . They have no guarantee that they will make it to the NFL or MLB or NBA . So let them make some money . Most of those kids athletes are from less fortunate families - so pay them ! Totally agree with state of Cali's decision !! LOVE IT

College athletes GROSSLY over estimating their popularity. College fans are fans of the schools, sure they root dor and like the players and even idolize them but it is not like Jayhawks fans stopped watching KU and starting watching the Celtics after Paul Pierce left. In NFL if we are not talking QB or WR, most fans do not even know where plauers went to school.
