Dellin Betances’ 2019 season was brief. The Yankees reliever who battled back from shoulder and lat injuries to make his season debut on Sunday suffered a partial tear of the left Achilles.
Aaron Boone said the reliever suffered the injury Sunday, landing awkwardly after jumping on the mound to celebrate his comeback. Betances didn’t think much of it at the time, but felt it later on.
Betances came on in the fourth against the Blue Jays on Sunday to pitch the final two outs of the inning. He threw eight pitches, holding the Jays scoreless and hitless.
The team announced the tear was found during the game Tuesday and the recommendation is for conservative rehab, not surgery at this time.
