Bigger bust Bryce Harper or Albert Puhols?

So far I would say it’s Harper bc he doesn’t even hustle

I would say Pujols. He was probably the best player in the league for 10 years with the Cards. Harper's had like one good season since being in the Majors.

those guys aren't busts. Harper is still too young to already call him a bust.

KC Royals drafted this kid named Bubba Starling in 2011 and said he would be the next great baseball player of our time. 5 tool skill set. kid was talented.

its 2019 and he just got called up. big disappointment.

hes still just 26 though. but that is only one I can think of off the top of my head.

The bigger bust is Harper because simply no way to justify that contract based on performance.

Pujols was a perennial. 300/30/110 guy

Since coming to the AL his strikeouts raceway up, hasn't hit .300, power and RBI way down. Slugging over .500 only in 1st year, whereas .600 in NL for 10 years.

However, his AL numbers are still worthy of the money that Harper actually got if you compare them. The power numbers, extra base hits, average, slugging, etc. And still less strikeouts.

    Harper easily.

The year that Albert was Harper's age, he hit 49 home runs and batted .331 and only struck out 50 times.

there are 1st round busts in the MLB draft every year, and there are much bigger ones than Bubba Starling.

Brien Taylor comes to mind, you were probably knee high at the time youngin.

I am just going off nostalgia since circa 2010 was when I first started really digging into the game. my friend got me into mogul which was a simulation/fantasy type game & I remember digging the through the internet reading about Bubba starling.

I remember he also took me to my first baseball game when the Braves came into town. he told me Jason heyward was gonna be the next Ken Griffey. im like who's Ken Griffey?

    lol good times.

ya, Heyward is a massive disappointment based on all the hype coming into the league.

hype. thats what baseball lacks nowadays. only reason people wanna call Bryce harper a bust is because hes one of the few players thats even relevant enough to talk about. its a shame.

    This.

Pujols is a top five slugger of all time, the word 'bust' should never even be attached to him in the same sentence.
Harper had one career year (2015) he hit 42 HR's but only drove in 99.
Not very productive when you factor in everything, plus Harper has never led Washington anywhere close to the World Series.

I have to laugh when people still compare Harper to Trout.
If Trout stays healthy for the next eight years plus he'll go down in history as one of the greatest players of all time defensively and offensively. Harper will be remembered as a hot headed good power hitter. Power hitters are a dime a dozen these days but to do what Pujols has done and Trout is doing is once in a lifetime storybook.

Is this sarcasm? He hustles more than any other player on the Phillies this year. Sometimes he tries to do too much on the bases and gets gunned out, but I’ll never knock his hustle. Numbers are on the rise in July as well. Hopefully, it keeps up.

not a big Harper fan but those that critique him don't take his OBP into consideration.

even when he is slumping he walks a lot and scores a lot of runs.

Harper has been disappointing, Hoskins has been the Phillies best hitter by far. Harper is a great example of a very good but not great player that benefited from playing in the loaded Nationals lineup with great hitters in front and behind him. Harper's home run numbers in a year like this playing at a hitters park like CNB are not impressive.

If Pujols is a bust, so was Bonds, Griffey, Jeter, Clemens, Big Papi, Mays, Cobb, etc... they all get old and less productive. Not sure you understand the definition of bust

Harper has never had a good manager in his prime. Baker was washed up. None of the other guys can even be remembered. Gabe K is a total meathead and gets outsmarted often.

Oh yeah, the Yankee phenom, the next Sandy Koufax.
Got into a juvenile fight, blew out his shoulder so bad could never pitch again.

    Here's a few more.

    JD Drew.

Josh Vitters, the next superstar outfielder for the Cubs. What he hit .120?
I saw him play a couple of years ago up the street (2 miles from where I live) for the Atlantic League Bridgeport (Ct.) Bluefish.

And one fo my personal favorites, the Blue Jays Delmon Young.

If that's the case the OP should have mentioned that.
And, Harper has the clear advantage when it comes to upside.
La Machine is in the twilight of an once in a lifetime career, Harper has 10 more years to prove superstar status.
Like it or not Harper is not a superstar, All Star yes, superstar not yet. Maybe one day soon, maybe not.

I can give you all a LONG list of 1st round busts just by my Padres but a couple names stick out..

Matt Bush-#1 overall epic bust got into trouble with the law and was an alcoholic
Ben Davis-#2 overall never lived up to the hype, short career
Sean Burroughs-#9 overall former LLWS star got involved with drugs and never did much in the majors
Donavan Tate-#3 overall had a slew of bad decisions off the filed along with injuries never made the majors
