Quick quiz hot shots.
Who’s got the second best pitching staff in the National League?
The answer would be the Cincinnati Reds.
Reds visit the Cubs tonight, Reds will start Castillo, Cubs start Hendricks.
Now even though Chicago has come out of the break storming winning three straight there are a few reasons why I think the Reds are a good spot play here.
Hendricks started the season fine however his past three starts have been awful losing all three while failing to get out of the fifth inning all three times. Walking five while giving up 14 hits in 11 1/3 innings yielding 7 earned runs.
Hendricks is 0-3 lifetime vs. the Reds with an ERA over 7.
The Reds have demonstrated they can hit Hendricks in the past.
Joey Votto is 10 for 24 with three home runs vs. Hendricks.
Puig is 4 for 12 with a homer as well.
Conversely Cubs bat .222 against Castillo in a 126 at bat sample size.
Scwarber and Contreras are the batters Castillo has to fade tonight, especially Schwarber who has two homers vs. Castillo, everyone else Castillo has had his way with.
Lastly Castillo is having a monster season for the Reds, he’s third in the major league in ERA at 2.28 he’s 8 and 3 overall, strikes out more than 9 per inning (124 in 106IP), and has a stellar WH/IP of 1.08 and has given up a stingy nine homeruns.
I personally think the Reds are in a good spot tonight at +130 and Castillo.
50 gets you 65, 10 gets you 13 if you are a small player.
