Bernard Tomic fined 45k for tanking match

He lost in 58 minutes against Tsonga and the Atp have accused him of not trying.

They should fine Sharapova for retiring 5-0 last set but they don't have the balls to do it high profile player

can't believe i'd defend this joker... but didn't he win 4 games in the last set?

is there video of the match?

i saw a video of an exhibition match between kyrgios/tomic that people groused about. while it wasn't 2008 nadal/federer it didn't seem that awful either.

any thoughts on kyrgios hitting at nadal? seemed like he was far away from nadal and that's what you are supposed to do. definitely if you don't like the passing opportunity, hit it right at the center of the player. this happens probably every few points in doubles.

Still sucks though, 45k was his total prize money, means he played the tournament for nothing, he is motivated only by money so won't be too happy about that.

yep hilarious that Nike dropped Tomic after Wimbledon two years ago, yet kept Sharapova despite the doping scandal.

Also, google Davydenko. I'm convinced the Russian mob threatened his family + pressured into him tanking a match.

I actually think the TWO SET betting rule is in place to avoid phony retirements similar to Davydenko's.

Unfortunately not every book offers that rule and during Slams when many aren't familiar with tennis betting but give it a try, they don't know to look at the rules. Sooooo many dodgy matches!

There was one game in Poland in final he won 1st set easilly and odds skyrocketed to +900 . Then he just stopped playing and books recorded chunks of money placed on his opponnent . Minor tournament so prize pool was not too big

Very interesting. I've tried to bet Tennis seriously at least 3x. In the end, I wind up failing miserably.

I'm not going to BLAME dodgy matches. It might just be that I suck.

When u start reading, tho...you should be taken aback on the stuff going on in Tennis. Read the Fuhrer article + his friendship w/ Irakli Labadze. Read about the tour groupies hanging around the players.

At the very least, the tour groupies have an information edge. They have knowledge of who is carrying an injury.

And most likely, it's more than that. John McEnroe pointed out that MOST tennis players are not wealthy, they're just trying to get by. When u do the math on how much $$ they can make on fixing a match, don't think it doesn't happen.

If he tanked it then he had a condigency plan for the $45,000 he got fined.

He was either paid by someone a very large amount of money to lose or made bets himself using a beard.

If he didn't do all that then he can sue Wimbledon and with a good lawyer get his purse back.

really? no offense, but your comment feels like a puzzle where we have to pick out a certain amount of errors.

and yes, i think tomic could use the prize money............ he posted at one point that he's rich but the math on that would be daunting. and he spends money like crazy apparently (or he did)

I see a lot of womens matches with 2-0 6-1 6-2. Do the women get fined for tanking? Or would there be outrage if women get fined like men for tanking?
