tampa and montreal to share a baseball team?

    https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...games-montreal

The Rays have received permission from Major League Baseball's executive council to explore a plan in which they would play home games in both the Tampa Bay area and Montreal, commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday.

seems interesting, although somewhat bizarre...... and what about the players themselves? probably have enough drama in their personal lives being unable to do much with family for at least half the baseball season. now it'd more of the baseball season (maybe they are so busy it wouldn't matter)

also, seems bizarre to build new stadiums in both cities....

definitely like the idea of a struggling MLB team sharing games with a city without a team. but not so many games.

i was wondering recently why the san diego chargers players and team admin couldn't stay in san diego forever and just play games in LA?

i've even seen the San Francisco 49ers staying at a hotel near the airport (reasonably near candlestick) for a home game. the "stay in SD" just takes it a few steps further. obvious the Rams staying in St Louis and playing in LA wouldn't work. and of course, LA is probably preferred living area over any place with a real winter

You couldnt make a worse partnership, Montreal was just as bad as Tampa Bay for attendance. You look at the Expos attendance records from back in the day.

Stupid idea. They should move to Brooklyn and be done with it.

NY can definitely support 3 baseball teams

No they love their baseball, but Florida, even in Summer, is dark at 7pm, is a outdoor and lifestyle paradise, where people relocate to avoid the routine that comprises day to day life up north.

Most of the youth that would attend games are working at night in the hospitality industry and most of the elders don't want to drive at night or want to be home by 8pm after a few beers.

The rest of the populace is too transient to care much.

Try getting a ticket to a spring training game ....SOLD OUT

but the lightning do great. even when the rays are pretty good fans don't care. much easier to fill a hockey arena of course. but they still draw more fans than the rays most nights.

The weather is too humid at night for Baseball. The team is a joke. The ownership is a bigger joke.

I've grown up as a Tampa Bay Sports fan.

The Bucs, Lightning, Rays, and even the Tampa Bay Storm of Arena League and Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL.

But I can tell you one thing about my fellow Tampa fans, especially when it comes to the Rays.

They are a bunch of lazy, cheap fu*ks!

To be honest the Rays owner has been very patient all of these years as the community didn't & don't attend the games, even when they are winning.

It also pisses me off because I've always wanted an NBA team in Tampa, and even thought the odds were unlikely anyhow because the Magic are close, these sorry azz fans have made sure of it not happening ever because I know the NBA would never even consider it when they see how pathetic these fans are when it comes to the Rays.

Today on local sports radio in Tampa, a caller asked the radio hose, if the fans could ask Rays owner Sternberg what they could do to convince him to keep the team here, what would Sternberg say?

The radio host responded that he did not know the answer to that.

I was fuming and wanted to call in and tell them that you idiots, the answer is simple.

He'd tell the fans to GO TO THE EFFIN GAMES!!!

    Financially unviable, long term.
    Two stadiums with costs=losses.
Maybe a short term idea to see if Montreal fans will show up??

I live in Tampa. The problems deal mostly with the stadium and the fact it’s not even in Tampa. The dome is a dump. If they put a nice stadium in Tampa, attendance would improve. Maybe not to the levels of some teams, but they’d at least average closer to 20k a game.
Tampa gets great attendance for hockey. They were selling out even when the Lightning sucked. The whole dual city thing is a stupid idea.

By the way, the chances of this happening are 1 in a million. This is a way to get the city of Tampa to the negotiating table to strike a deal for a ballpark. If they don’t make one, they will just move the team outright, not share it. Still think they get a stadium deal done in the end and the team moves to Tampa where the younger population lives.
