Looks like the Cherokee tribe will be getting permission from the state.IMO it will pass the house and the Governor will sign it.Betting will only be allowed in the casino as well as horse racing. No online wagering though.
    Still progress for us here.

They’ve already started building the sportsbook at Cherokee. I go once or twice a month to play poker and they are moving forward like it’s going through. Also Cherokee is building a new poker room.

Jealous. The sports players will trickle into poker, should be slightly better games once it begins.

They are also building a 3rd tower for hotel rooms. Yes it’s in the middle of nowhere but only a 3 hour drive for me. This casino pulls from Charlotte, Atlanta, so a lot of good action. The new sports book and poker room will be right beside each other and look to be very nice.

The entire state of NC will probably be one of the last to allow sportsbooks/casinos in the entire state. The elders here love to refer NC as being a part of the Bible Belt and gambling is such a BAD thing to do. NC was one of the last states to legalize the lottery...but only after tons of $$$$ were flowing into Va & SC. Only after it was labeled as the "education lottery" did the old farts in govt finally pass it.
NC has mountains, beaches, nationally known lakes........but not 1 casino that isn't in Cherokee!!! WAKE UP ELECTED OFFICIALS.......this isn't 1959.....it's 2019!!!

Agreed still not can not bet legally on the horses either. Bill pending to allow pari-mutuel wagering on the ponies. Those against it consider it predatory gambling. C'mon man.

Living about an hour north of Raleigh,NC it's easier for me to hit I85-I95 and go to MGM in Md. or continue I95 North to New Jersey. I wish these old farts would get their heads outta their a$$e$ & do what many other states have done in allowing sportsbooks/casinos in the entire state. They could make it "illegal" to vote on any events in involving NC teams so that would cancel any ideas of betting Duke, UNC, or the Carolina Panthers in the NFL. Since I'm not a BONUS CHASER I really like walking up to a window and making a bet & returning to collect should it win.

That would be sooooooooooo nice.........let me stop dreaming!!

It still couldn't be any further away from me as I live in coastal NC. I know the Lumbee tribe has tribal lands near Lumberton, NC which I-95 runs right by there. Would be nice if they could get a casino and sports book there. Only an hour from the coast instead of 6 hours to the mountains.

A lot of expansion going on in the States but why focus on offshore? They offshore business is huge globally, it's not about the US.

They won't be affected like a lot of posters seem to think.

On the other hand, the us markets, state by state, are being affected...they are being allowed to exist.

The money seeking the best lines won't care where we get down, just that it's done with the best numbers and in accordance with some strategy of hiding online activity.

That's it. Bigger money will flow to the lower juice.

One thing I see happening is there will be less offshore books popping up, trying to take advantage of the US player's thirst to get down...those books of course all being scams.

Now the US player can go across town, no matter how desperate, and avoid the potential scams.

Before you get your hopes too high realize that it's only 2 casinos about 50 miles apart on the western part of NC on an Indian reservation. NO Mobile & NO online wagers will be accepted......so even though it sounds good for the south/east it ain't!!!!!

Harrah’s Cherokee Casinos to Open Sportsbooks
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
    July 29, 2019 - Cherokee, NC
Harrah’s Cherokee Casinos is excited to bring a new game to town. On Friday, Governor Roy Cooper signed Senate Bill 154 into law, allowing the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to open sportsbooks at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort and Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel. Guests will soon be able to wager on collegiate and professional sports as well as on off-track horse racing at both locations.

Development of The Book, at both locations, will begin immediately and is expected to be completed late fall. The resort in Cherokee will open in a temporary location in what is currently Sound Bytes at UltraStar Multi-tainment Center.
The Book at Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino & Hotel will be located near the promotions stage.
“This is an exciting time,” said Brooks Robinson, Regional Senior Vice President and General Manager of Harrah’s Cherokee Casinos. “We continuously work to offer new experiences and opportunities to our customers and are confident that our new sportsbook will be an added delight for our guests and sports fans.”

Gator, I agree. Keep us abreast of any timing.

Any chance they throw something together in time to get some football action? Maybe not week01, but late Sept?

You are right. That place is flowing w/ $$. SEC-country can't wait to bet on games.
