    AAF has Suspended Orperations

That didn't last long. Good thing Kaepernick didn't get that 20 million dollar contract.

At least Johnny Football has at least one AAF war story to share with his grandchildren.

It was a really bad product from up top all the way down to the field. I hope the operations stay suspended.

Really thought they would eventually have a shot at a minor league like arrangement with the NFL down the line.

I don't think the position players would be conditioned well enough to play a full year of football. The closest minor league football operation is pulling QBs out of the Arena League, but that really hasn't happened since Kurt Warner.

The World League of American Football was around for a few years though. Surprised it doesn't come back.

Will be interesting to see what strategy Vince McMahon and company employ with the XFL next year after seeing this happen so quickly.

I think an investor has already bailed them out once this season.

The goals of the league were to fill the primetime TV slots that were missing after the NFL and possibly to turn it into some kid of development league.

NFLPA had some words about that.

And...maybe viewers really do need a little time off from football to get hungry for it again.

Good posts KLC and I would imagine the XFL has to take a totally different approach, make it a slightly different game. Either way, not being the NFL will hurt ratings.

The AAF was hoping the NFL association would be enough. I know they aren't women, and the AAF wasn't a terrible product, but it still reminds me a bit of the NBA backing the WNBA.

The NBA is on the hook for the losses, the NFL was smart enough to avoid that.

If it weren’t for SBR, I wouldn’t even know it existed. They didn’t do a great job promoting the league. Still have no clue what channel they even broadcast on.

I read somewhere that the XFL was contemplating drafting kids out of college earlier than the mandatory 3 year waiting period that the NFL mandates. Kids that don't want the college experience, and just want to get paid, would make somewhere in the $50000-$100,000 vicinity, and then take out an insurance policy for any potential lost wages from a career ending injury.

These leagues have to get on a big channel or they will never make it. Week 1 had big ratings because it was on CBS and then went off into channels a lot of people don't have.

That can't be it though because College football gets good ratings. Maybe try a shorter play clock and clock stoppages on 1st down like college does. I find it entertaining to watch two crap MAC defenses deal with a play every 15 seconds

Didn't watch one football game. Wanted to tune in.... was preoccupied with other things. NFL will live forever.

It wasn't horrid football, and it would be a win/win for the NFL to allow its bottom roster players to play there. Something bigger than that caused this suspension. Talk of the new owner stealing some kind of proprietary gambling platforms the AAF had created. Over my paygrade. Wonder how and when season bets will be settled for those of us stupid enough to make them. . https://deadspin.com/reports-the-aaf...ain-1833747506

Also think a decent amount of AAF players will be signed for NFL training camp, and some will make teams.
