How long could you go without gambling? A day , a week? months?

So starting tomorrow I am going to simultaneously try to stop smoking and gambling

Not for good but atleast for a month. Maybe even 2 or 3 months.

Shit is going to be hard AF

any tips? They say in order to stop a habit you must replace it with something else right?

oh and by the way I may have to take a hair folicle drug test... will shaving my head help?

21 milligram patches, dont dose down, just keep wearing them. Its perfectly fine as long as you dont light up as I was told by a medical professional. The patch companies want you to dose down cause you'll eventually start smoking again and buy more patches. Took me 5 weeks doing that.

I can make it half-way through my morning coffee before analyzing a wager.

I would call the toll free numbers that the department of health put out there and see if they are still in service

For smoking, identify your triggers and be aware of them through the course of your day.
When you encounter situations that trigger your urge to smoke, try to talk yourself out of it.
Being mentally prepared and aware of what you are attempting to do is the most important factor.
    Good luck.

As for the hair follicle test, get something like this:

    1) Stop smoking...
    I was a 3 pack-a-day cigarette smoker. BOOM...Quit cold turkey.
You really have to get pumped up and hate the cigarette and the stoopidity of smoking. You've really got to hate cigarette smoking and how bad it is. I knew that it was time when I saw a billboard with animals smoking cigarettes.
It was a huge billboard with the deer, the raccoon, the bear and the tiger with a stoopid cigarette dangling from their mouths. I knew then and there how silly I looked and how unhealthy I felt.
    BOOM,,,Done deal....Never looked back.
(Never considered patches...it's like a junkie staying hooked on methadone. Remember heroin was touted as the cure for morphine addiction.)

    2) Stop gambling...
    Never seriously considered quitting gambling.
Cut back...yeah, I have cut-back during rough patches. But quitting...NO. NO. NO.

    3) Hair follicle drug test...
Never took one because I've been self-employed.
I have no experience with the procedure.Test is tough to beat and the only saving grace is time.

Quitting smoking for me was easy because my acid reflux was so bad when I took 1 drag I coughed uncontrollably for up to a half hour. Suffering made it easy for me to quit.

Living in Vegas I could go a couple days without gambling but no chance I could do it long term. Even when I go to Cali on vacation I have to mix in a day at Santa Anita or Del Mar.

I only spot bet so I suppose it could be months. Some months I might have several bets and others just 1-3.

I used to be a degen betting everything and anything. Giant moneylines, chasing random ingame bets, obscure sports like volleyball. Took a break and realized it was more unneeded stress than anything.

When I'm in Vegas once or twice a year I tend to pump way too much into money eating slots and video poker, though. It's trip money so it doesn't sting nearly as much and rooms are "free".

Just gamble on football. Games actually mean something. Betting on baseball, basketball, hockey much harder. Can lose 30 games in hockey and basketball and still make playoffs.

I could quit cold turkey today and never look back but I don't want to. Honest truth.

I'd probably stop watching sports all together also if I did quit. It would be like what's the point? I would have to go back to working though with a business or something.. I'd go nuts if I didn't with all the free time.

Cause it is a complete grind and gets boring. Consistent small sized betting action day after day for compulsive gamblers just doesn't work for them. They get impatient and need to load up. They don't treat gambling like a business they treat it like an addiction in other words.

When Compulsive gamblers get on losing streaks they up bet sizing and chase, when they go on winning streaks they begin to think they can't lose and eventually load up and lose big.

This is why Sports books are in business and thrive. They make money off degen compulsive gamblers that lack control and discipline like I described above.

That's my take and what I know..

I usually do not bet after the superbowl til the NCAA tournament (which I skip some years) or Opening Day MLB. Lines too sharp for me.
