Miami Sports Scene Is Screwed For A While

If you had to wager, would you bet on one of South Florida’s pro sports teams winning a championship in the next 10 years?

That’s one of the propositions listed by gambling website SportsBettingDime.com, which also posted odds this week for each city’s chances of hoisting a trophy in 2019 in any of the four major sports.

Sure, the year just started, but it’s already tough to imagine a Miami-area team winning a title. The Heat have a losing record, the Panthers are 10 points out of a playoff spot, the Marlins are in full rebuild mode, and the Dolphins are still coachless with the word “tanking” being thrown around.

Those circumstances led to SportsBettingDime.com offering 60/1 odds that one of our local pro teams wins a championship in the 2019 cycle, meaning if you wagered a hypothetical $100 you could win $6,000. (They considered 2018-19 NBA, 2018-19 NHL, 2019 MLB and Super Bowls 53 + 54 in factoring those odds.)

Of the 16 major cities they considered, only Phoenix (65/1) and Detroit (74/1) were given longer odds than Miami for 2019.

As the website puts it: “Parade organizers in Miami, Phoenix and Detroit can probably take the year off.”

The Bay Area (Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose) was given the strongest odds this year (4/7), thanks mainly to the Golden State Warriors, again the heavy favorite to with the NBA Finals. (The San Jose Sharks are also on track to make the NHL playoffs.)

Los Angeles — which has two teams still alive in the NFL playoffs, the reigning National League champion and some guy named LeBron — was second (7/8), followed by Boston (6/5), New York/New Jersey (7/2) and Chicago (4/1).

SportsBettingDime.com also posted an over/under for which year each city would win its next title, and that’s where they set the target at 2028 (or a decade) for South Florida.

As for which team has the greatest chance of being our next local champion, the gambling site gave the Heat the strongest odds (9/5), followed by the Panthers (7/3), Marlins (4/1) and Dolphins (6/1).

Marlins are kinda sneaky - they can draft and develop talent in baseball

of course but you also need some pricey free agents to go all the way..........marlins are a shame. could have had one 1 team

dee gordon (in his prime still very good)
    stanton
    fernandez
    yelich (traded for nothing, shame)
    ozuna
    aj ramos
    realmuto
    justin bour
all those guys are all-star or near all star players. would be better than the nats
