See how long this lasts before it collapses...cliff notes below..taxpayers get ready to bend over and spread those cheeks

For starters, Stanford economist Roger Noll, who has been studying public stadium financing issues for 20 years, testified at the one-day hearing that the deal was the "worst I've ever seen," and called the Raiders' economic study "deeply flawed" for a whole host of reasons, including that it assumes one-third of ticket-buyers would be tourists, a completely unprecedented figure that bears no resemblance to reality. (Think about that for a second: 22,000 people every game paying NFL ticket prices to go to an NFL game instead of doing Vegas things...why, exactly?) But 16 of the state senate members didn't care. They voted for it anyways, even though if Noll is right, the people they represent will be on the hook for the missing revenue, not tourists or billionaires.

"Then there's the little fact that, in a few months, the state of Nevada
will have to make significant cuts to public services due to its $400 million budget deficit, including in areas such as hospitals and schools. You know what has never saved a person's life? A football stadium."

"And this is all happening against the voters' will. A September poll found that
Nevada voters opposed the Vegas stadium deal "across nearly all demographic lines," which is pretty remarkable when you consider the current political climate in which people don't agree about anything."

They still have to get 24 votes among the owners and Roger Goodell would love nothing better than to screw LV after a stadium gets built.

Taxpayers have spent nearly $3 billion on the 16 stadiums that will host NFL games during the season’s opening weekend, according to figures in a new analysis from the Taxpayers Protection Alliance, a Washington, D.C-based conservative nonprofit group.

All told, 29 of the NFL’s 31 stadiums have received public funds for construction or renovation. In the last two decades, the analysis found, taxpayers across the country have spent nearly $7 billion on stadiums for a league that surpassed $10 billion in revenue last season.

If the Oakland Raiders end up making the move to Las Vegas, that move won't happen until 2019 at earliest.

During an interview with ESPN.com on Saturday, Raiders owner Mark Davis revealed that he plans on keeping his team in Oakland for at least two more seasons after 2016.

"We want to bring a Super Bowl championship back to the Bay Area," Davis told ESPN.com.

Davis' comments could turn into a giant slap in the face for the Bay Area if the Raiders were to win a championship after leaving California.

If you're wondering why Oakland would even want to keep the Raiders for two more years if the team decides to move to Vegas, the answer is simple: The city won't have a choice.

The Raiders signed a new lease with Oakland in March that includes team options for both the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Under terms of the lease, the Raiders have the option to leave Oakland after the 2016, 2017 or 2018 season.
That being said, a Las Vegas stadium probably won't be ready until 2020 at the earliest, which means the Raiders would likely have to find a place to play in 2019. That Raiders' tentative options in 2019 could be: Play at Sam Boyd Stadium in Vegas, join the Rams for one season in L.A., stay in Oakland for another season.

The concept of the Las Vegas Raiders is, by some appearances, a full-speed-ahead proposition. Public funding for a new stadium in Vegas is in place and Raiders owner Mark Davis is talking about his desire, his eagerness and his commitment to get his franchise there.

But, in reality, the prospects of a future move to Vegas by the Raiders falls into the not-so-fast category. The relocation, once formally proposed by Davis, would have to be ratified by his fellow NFL franchise owners. And among that group, some wariness remains.

Several people familiar with the owners’ views said this week there are potential problems with a Raiders’ move to Las Vegas, not all of them related to the city’s status as the nation’s gambling capital. The relatively small size of the Las Vegas market would be a significant concern to some owners, according to those people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because no formal relocation application has been filed.

“I think in general we don’t like to leave big markets for small markets,” a high-ranking official with one NFL team said. “That’s as big as anything. I think most people are not crazy about that.”

HOUSTON – When casino owner Steve Wynn got before the Nevada Legislature to talk about bringing the NFL to Las Vegas, he specifically said two influential owners had told him the league is on board – and at least one of those owners says Wynn was spot-on.

“I would say, ‘Amen,’ ” Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters during the NFL meetings Tuesday. “Steve is a valued friend and Sheldon (Adelson) is as well. I admire Jim (Murren) and what they do with MGM and I just admire what Nevada, Las Vegas is about.

“It’s a compliment to the NFL that they’re considering supporting a team. And so, I think it’s a great opportunity for everybody concerned, and I’m looking forward to the future.”

I dont know why any team would want to be in Vegas. There will be tons of opponent fans flying in for every game. I bet fans will be split 50/50 for most "home games".

Why would any team want that?

You could be right and this could account for the "1/3 of ticket buyers will be tourists" study.

I'm surprised the Raiders would choose to stay in Oakland, but if the stadium isn't ready then I see no choice. The NFL Owners could shut it all down with a vote, I wonder if Vegas knows that...lol.

I would not be surprised at all if the owners shut this down. Obviously Jerry Jones and Mark Davis like it, but not all owners are like those two...

Raiders owner Mark Davis made it clear to fellow owners that he intends to begin filing paperwork this year to relocate his team to Las Vegas for the 2019 season, but sources said NFL officials are in no hurry to vote on the matter. Davis will require 24 votes to move his team to Nevada after the state passed a stadium financing plan for him this month, and he would like to bring the matter to a formal vote in January, though that is far from certain at this point.

At the NFL meetings in Houston this week, Davis said he will do everything within his power to move his franchise to Vegas as soon as possible, and he has no interest in remaining in Oakland or joining the Rams in Los Angeles (he has an option to go to L.A. should the Chargers pass on their window to do so in January).

The league continues to explore several stadium options in the Bay Area, however, with commissioner Roger Goodell among those who prefer the Oakland market, sources said. Eric Grubman, the NFL executive vice president in charge of stadium issues, addressed the owners briefly during the meeting, sources said, noting the superior business and corporate infrastructure in Oakland and the growing trend of tech companies relocating from the Silicon Valley to downtown Oakland.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gave another ringing endorsement for Sin City to become the new home of the Raiders. And Jones is among the most influential owners in the league, as he had a strong role in getting the Rams to return to Los Angeles.

“Vegas has a lot going for it,” Jones said during his weekly radio show on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday. “It’s going to really have a strong case to get an NFL football team. I know that Oakland was approved to move earlier this year.

“You put all of that together and it’s really a confluence of things coming together. And I call that the crosshair theory – when things get in the crosshair, you better recognize it most of the time.”

The owners have yet to formally vote on the move, and 24 of the 32 would have to approve it. With Jones' support, it would seem like Oakland owner Mark Davis would be able to get approval.

Jones praised Nevada Legislature for approving $750 million in public money to build a stadium in Las Vegas last month.

“They’ve provided for a team, the most funding that has ever been funded to give a team an opportunity,” Jones said. “L.A. never really had that powerful of influence, put it that way, which is over $700 million of initial contribution from the state of Nevada and from Las Vegas. That’s pretty strong.”

Can I ask: Not sure if I remember correctly, but did Las Vegas ban any wagering on Nevada teams in the past? Weren't UNLV and Nevada bets off the board in the community of Bugsy.

I don't imagine this is still the case. Can't envision DA Raiders being OTB in the Desert Paradise.
