    NBA Rookie Luka Doncic

    Luka Doncic

How good is this guy gonna be?

The 19 year old rookie is averaging:

    20 ppg
    7 rebounds
    5 assists

Should he have been taken #1 overall?

He's not only a stud, he's going to draw international interest and make the nba more $$. He is everything kristaps porzingis was supposed to be and possibly more

The nba will cater to him like they did LeBron and yao back in their $$ making days

Cuban is a smart individual, he knows he's sitting on a winning ticket. Silver will have his finger men ensure the mavs make playoffs next yr and yrs to come

ABC, ESPN, tnt and nbatv will push for as many mavs games as they can broadcast on nat tv and marketing ad bids will increase. Everyone makes $$ and the nba promotes a player that plays to win and plays the right way

Just like KP? Lonzo? Or the hundreds of others who have come and gone? You make playoffs if you're good, and you don't if you're not.

He is special. This is a tremendous rookie class too. NBA is getting stocked with a lot of young talent.

Injured right now. He worked his way into rotation and was showing a ton of promise prior to it.

Ayton is legit. He needs to be more assertive but his game is solid.

The Mavericks haven’t had much luck recruiting star free agents to Dallas over the last several years, but it’s possible that Luka Doncic could help change that, Sean Deveney writes in his latest Sporting News article. With longtime star Dirk Nowitzki on his last legs, Doncic looks like the Mavs’ next franchise player, and the idea of playing alongside the young star could appeal to players considering Dallas in free agency.

“It’s always hard to make that pitch and get over the hump with free agents,” a league source said to Deveney. “But they (the Mavericks) didn’t really have a chance with those guys. Players mostly like (owner Mark) Cuban, and they were always a compelling enough franchise to get in the room with LeBron (James) and Dwight Howard and other stars. But they could not present themselves as a team with a great future.

“They can do that now,” the source continued. “Not sure they can push a star to put his name on the line, but ‘Come play with Luka,’ it’s a better message.”

Luka should have been #1 no doubt.
He was already a star at the age of 18, he had won EuroLeague MVP and Eurobasket.
Not sure why Igor didn't pick him at #1, he was coaching Slovenia and Luka when they won Euro.

I don't know how the hell you don't take Doncic? The kid was NBA ready 2 years ago. That trade was totally unexpected. Hawk fans are going to be pissing in their boots for quite some time.

only reason he didn't go first is it's almost 50/50 odds that these euro stars will pan out in NBA. Hindsight is 20/20. suns needed big man, Ayton was clear cut number 1 coming into draft. im sure they'd take him (luka) first knowing what we know now. but whos to say booker and Ayton don't take the suns far in the future. lets have this discussion again 5-7 years from now.

Its always easy to put up stats on bad teams, you're down 20 and no one is playing defense, let's see how he does his second year in the league if Mavericks are a playoff team.

He hasnt' been super efficient % wise but he has insane handles for a bigger guy like Joe Johnson, that is what makes it seem like he will be a star.

Mavs are NOT a bad team. They're in the playoff hunt in the West, which is no small accomplishment. He has been their clear-cut go-to-guy and the vast majority of their games have been competitive.

Was reading today Durant's comments about Doncic's advantage of not having to study these past few years -nothing to do with Doncic being a generational talent then?! This guy is so insecure... He knows that this 19yo rookie is way ahead of him in all-star votes

They have the 3rd worst record in the West and are 4-18 on the road, they are a bad team. I'm not saying that means Doncic's play is irrelevant, but its much easier to score points on bad teams when you're down double digits.

They are 2.5 games out of the playoffs in the West! Their ranking in the west is totally irrelevant -it's how far off they are. Technically speaking you could have the worst record in the west and be 1 game back from 1st. And what does road rec have to do with it? That means they have a good home rec

Dallas is 12-18 against the West, they won't be able to clean up against mediocre and bad eastern conference teams all year

They have a better home record than the champs ...they're not a BAD team.

Rumour mill has them trading Smith. Looks like they will make that playoff push.

I didn't want to overreact & bring it up too early since he is only a rookie, but it's time to start asking ourselves who will end up as the Mavs' greatest player, Dirk or Luka.
