The only way to beat the house...

    Is to become the house.

How many of you have tried being your friend's bookie. Did you run into any problems? Any ruined friendships? It seems like it's the only way to win if you have a lot of degenerate friends, but how ethical is it? Currently have a friend's brother who chases non stop. Kind of feel bad for him.

JJ, so far I have just a handful of friends. All losers, and chase, but most importantly they pay. Thinking about only dealing with people I know.

I've worked both sides of the window. I know these truths to be self evident. Most bettors lose more than they win percentage wise. That of course will kill you, but add the vigorish on top and the bookie is simply printing money.

I have no idea why it is so, but it is definitely true, almost all of the crazy wild things that happen to swing a game go against the degenerate gambler, and so by default goes in the bookie's favor. When I make bets I suffer "bad beats". When I booked bets all the breaks went my way.
    God must love bookies.

Once they start losing money they’re not friends anymore

Secondly what are you gonna do if they don’t pay?

    Stay away

Well, many of my friends and myself have made over a million each against the house so no need to become the house in theory if willing to work hard and gain knowledge

They have to believe you are taking bets on behalf of someone bigger than you. Because you probably are, even if you don't know it.

Because you yourself are doing something illegal, bigger illegal types can knock on your door at any time.

    You ready for that?

They lose money to someone else anyway. If they have any integrity then they will pay. Worth the risk.

Don’t listen to jj. He doesn’t like money.

I feel like you’d need at least 50 clients to start... And if they are ‘normal’ size bettors like 100 bucks average, not high rollers, you’d need at least what $100k cash? starting bankroll. Then you’d also want an online interface, not sure how much those cost to use. But then you’d be printing money, probably better than most full time jobs.

why in the world would you need to start with 50 clients? and have 1000 bets worth of bankroll

you wouldn't need any bankroll, because you would be booking losers and getting +110 on every bet

Guess I’m not sure what the OP’s goal is, to book bets for fun or for a job. Sure you could book bets for 3 or 4 of your buddies but I doubt that leaves you much better than just placing your own bets, then you’re exposed to a much higher liability than you would be controlling your own bets.

i think it would be much better than just placing your own bets unless he knows what he's doing betting wise

    at $100/bet, assuming 4 bets/week and a 5% hold, that's a profit of $1000/year/player ... 4 can turn into 10 which can turn into 20 etc

not sure how someone would start with 50, easier to start with a few and then get word of mouth

leave some balances online to hedge off of bets he would be uncomfortable with

why would they stiff and call the police? gamblers don't call the police, girlfriends/wives might but even then the cops aren't gonna care

risks might outweigh the rewards though

If gamblers want to stiff locals
    They call police

    Not as
Many pure locals anymore so does
    Not happen

    Not worth court and fines

you are joking right, every single play a good player makes is only available because someone placed a bad one. Most line moves that make a play for a sharp player are usually the result of a bad play. everyday you are taking advantage of the inexperienced bettor. Smart bettors are like wolves waiting on the hill for the one dumb sheep to wander off in the wrong direction and they pounce!
