LeVeon Bell giving up $853,000 is asinine.

He seriously needs to get another agent. This move does nothing for him except lose money.

Not sure how trade works when he hasn't signed the tender but it sounds like he wants out.

Funny how against the franchise tag these guys are, itís such a good deal year to year. I get you want the guarantees but in a sport with small shelf life and a position with even smaller shelf life, missing out on millions of dollars and wasting away part of a season doesnít feel like itís going to be made up with whatever long term deal he believes heís going to get next season from another team, who will not only see a running back entering late 20s that wants a ton of money but also leaves his team high and dry when he doesnít get what he wants

I think Adrian Peterson is playing for peanuts right now. Demarco Murray out the league. rb is the most devalued position. On average they only make more than kickers and punters. If you are marketing yourself you show your boss what you can do. and based on that, he says let me see you do it one more year, despite you proving you are one of the best in the world at what you do. Here's this carrot of 14 million dollars for one year. Now if you get hurt playing under this tag, that one time payday that a rb gets is out the window. Or you could be Todd Gurley with a 60 million dollar contract and 45 guaranteed with a 20 million dollar signing bonus? Think i would choose the latter. No one that is good enough wants to play a sport this violent at the most fragile position with the highest risk. He has a point.

Sure he eliminates career ending injury. (Which he can get insurance for) he also gets a year older with no pay.

His deal in a year will not be 14 million more because of the hits his body didnít take. Heís losing $ this way and scaring
Away teams along the way. Sucky position for a running back to be in, but passing up seasons with 14 mil in pay isnít smart any way you cut it

There are those who say skipping a year of those hits buys you more than that in return. They have stats for runners with 350+ carries and what it did to them the following years. And the insurance ain't giving you what gurley got. Fans see it from their perspective. but the players know more about risks. Especially at that position. You get one shot at a big payday even as a premiere rb. no one wants to be 28 when they get it so they can really try and lowball you.
Boogie Cousins was on pace for a max deal making 36mil/yr and close to 200 mil guaranteed. now he's making about 6mil. Chris Bosh will never make another dollar playing basketball most likely. when you have a job that is physically demanding and you are premier at it, you want a guaranteed long term contract. i don't think he sits out, but may be interested in forcing some kind of trade. Talent wins out. and he is arguably the best rb so teams aren't gonna be scared off.

tough spot here but gotta respect the guys decision. Felt he’s deserving of a specific amount and sticking to his guns. Pitt has a lot of $ tied up on Big Ben & Brown so offered him 33 mil guaranteed. Guys been a stud since his rookie contract and wants some security. Hopefully the next CBA the players will vote against the franchise tag BS which gives the teams all the power when a player is in the prime of their careers.

EDIT. Oh by the way. The money offered him this year, 39 other players would be paid more

He's scaring teams away if he plays and get hit. Sitting on a beach or working out at private gym, his value will remain the same for the next 1-2 years at least. He's not 35.

It's becoming more & more evident that Le'Veon Bell isn't the brightest bulb in the box.

Sports are always a risk for injury. Of course you can name bosh and cousins (who will still make his $) and leave out guys like Kirk cousins who this worked very well for. Fact is the career threatening injury happens once for Every dozens upon dozens upon dozens of time it doesnít happen.

He wonít sit a year or till week 11 ans make 14 million more in guarantees on his next deal.

Don't be mad at what the teams are doing. Be mad at the NFLPA negotiating and agreeing to the way the contracts are handled. You paid these guys union dues to get deals like this.

Glad you did bring Kirk up. he has been the only guy in the history of franchise tags to be thrilled with it. because he earned it by being mediocre and was grossly overpaid. a huge difference when you are one of the best in the league. Kirk is a poor man's tony romo. a bad decision maker who will lose you many games. It's hard to blow it on this minnesota team and this is an ideal fit. He's better than Trent Dilfer who won a ring becuase he was on a great team where he didn't have to fugg it up.

Roster size. not rooster lol. So many guys can't afford it and the career length is the shortest. So any money given up by the average guy is to benefit someone in the future. With the shortened career length guys aren't willing to take that chance.

He actually wasn't thrilled with it at all, he's just the most recent example of playing through it and making more money. Different circumstances for a running back, sure. Point still stands, bell won't make up more than 14 million in salary being a year older in guarantees by sitting out and not taking the hits.

The best rb is not playing for 34mil guaranteed. Gurley got 45 mil with a 20 mil signing bonus. and he will get that. not from the steelers. i think the dipshit is the guy that lowballs himself. Most people when they are the best at what they do preferred to be paid that way. and if the steelers don't want to they can trade him instead of losing him for nothing. i believe that is all he wants.

Spot on intelligent comment there! So sick of these rich fuk'in ego running backs who think they're the whole fuk'in franchise! Le'von douche's career is short lived. Instead of racking up stats and millions with a contender like Pittsburgh, who also has the best WR in the NFL in Antonio Brown, he's a greedy fuk sitt'in the bench who only cares about money in the short term, and not the prestige of winning a 7th Super Bowl with a team that's one of the best out there. Fuk him! I hope he ends up on some shit team with no offensive line and gets slammed to the tuff every week!

Well they cant blink now. Its over. They cannot sign him even if they wanted to.

He either signs the franchise tender or sits out. He's not eligible to sign any other contract this season.

Pittsburgh got 3 pro bowl guys on the o-line and one of the most fear passing attack in the nfl ? How much success is bell having on another team ?
Hey life ainít fair? Just because rams was dumb enough 2 pay gurley his money doesnít mean Pittsburgh will pay bell - thatís not how the Rooneyís operate -
