    KLC, u know I love this stuff. You are great on the old-school threads.

    How good should Gooden have been? Everyone points to Gooden's drug-use. But his pitching coach (Mel Stottlemyre) had a weird philosophy of throwing FEWER fastballs, and I think that got into Dwight's head.

    Gooden and Strawberry should have been 2 of GOAT's. They couldn't overcome one of the biggest social issues of the 80's though. I can say I met both of them in person. The Mets were staying at the same hotel that I was at with my dad in September 1985 in San Diego. I can also say that they both had groupies with them in their rooms that night.

    Of course, the stories have been told over + over again. Imagine the lives those guys lived. What a team, hard to believe they only won one title.

    Strawberry was the best natural LH-power hitter I've ever seen. Those guys made it look so effortless.
