Joker vs Rafa -- In match thread

just getting out early as the anticipation is building !!!

current odds on 5dimes: Joker -114, Nadal -106

Let's hope Isner v Anderson finishes quickly so we can get to the de facto final which is the Main Event

Gimme Joker in this match up. If it was on Clay, I'd go Nadal.

Understood Nick but I am going to Rafa because while I think Joker is getting back to peak form slowly, I think this is his biggest test at a Slam venue in a long time and I think Rafa gets it done in a very tight thriller

DJoker has the advantage because Nadal is going to be pretty spent from that brutal, physical match with Del Potro that went nearly 5 hours.

Yes this could be key. When rafa was 22 it was different (see aussie open 2009 semifinal and final less than 48 hrs apart after rafa played 5 hr brutal match vs Verdasco)

Now he's 32 and this is a concern

I worry about this match.... my initial gut is Djokovic because nadal should be tired as he played.... 5 hours vs Delpo... however if djokovic does start slow, will he be able to go 5 sets? I dont know Djokers fitness at 5 sets these days

I think it will come down to mental fortitude.

Going into this tournament, how committed was Nadal to winning? It will be interesting to see how he responds to Fed's surprise exit.

It's becoming increasingly clear that Novak is on a rapid return to being top man in tennis, but is he 100% there yet, confidence-wise?

Going with Nadal because he's more intense at this point in time, but his wheels could fly off at any moment.

Joker will win. I like how he's been on grass. Been returning serves well too.

all about how theyve been playing I havent been watching the men's side closely as I dont bet many matches on the men's side because of 5 sets, freaky things happen as we saw with the Fed match, every major there are quite a few matches where guy wins first 2 sets then loses the match I dont have time for that lol. I might try to watch some of both of their last matches before this one starts good luck all.

I’m figuring a lot of long rallies and long games. Joker could not get his first serve going early on against the Russian, but he did win anyhow. So it’s hard to say.

Taking joker can't see rafa winning unless he plays one of his best ever games, all rafas big weapons going to be nullified a lot on grass, unless joker lays a big egg on cc he should really take this

You guys say he played 5 hours against Del Potro - do you think bookmakers doesn't know that? It's not an angle you just figured out, anyone can see that.

more rest for Rafa after that grueling 5 setter, as Isner and Anderson continue to beat the helll out of each other with monster service games

This match will start approximately 9:00 July 16th right after Isner and Anderson complete their 302-300 5th set epic.

    Well said.

    * Djokovic is 12-3 last 15 meeting vs Nadal
    * Nadal is 3-2 vs Djok on grass
    * Nadal had a very rough 5 setr vs Potro, Djok just run over Kyle, Kei and Karen
    * Nadal had a Much better year than Djok

Public is backing Nadal, as expected,

Unless you can get either guy at +110/+120,
    Stay away from this one

not sure how you can go against nadal here with the year he has had. Joker has done nothing. He's playing well but hasnt really had to play anyone crazy to get here. An out of form Nishikori and Edmund are about it.

Have you watched Nishikori at all this tourny? Bunch of people just looking at recent matches and throwing darts everywhere. Lmfao.

I believe the local curfew is 11 pm London time that a match needs to end due to noise regulations in the area. i remember this from a few years ago when a Murray match went past 10 pm with the roof closed but the announcers said it still needed to end by 11 or they suspend it.

it's not like flushing meadow NY where a match can go until 2 or 3 am LOL

Ive watched him all year. He is a shell of his former self and the form he had 2 years ago. What has Nishikori done this year? Beat headcase krygios and nearly lost to journeyman qualifier gulbis.

Bottomline is nadal is battle tested and has been a beast all year. Joker has finally strung together a few good matches and people are back on the bandwagon.
