How fast do 7-8 year old throw?

My nephew just threw 42-44 mph on a radar gun. He wasn't pitching on the mound but took a crow hop to do it. My question is what is the average for kids this age. My cousin is raising him as a single mom and uses me to be his coach.

I was using it to show him the difference in throwing speed when you use your whole body as opposed to just arm

35-45 should be the norm at that age group.

No not yet. I am still trying to come up with a clever one. I don't want to just throw anything out there, ya know?

that is really fast for that age.

a pretty good fastball for a 11-12 year is 60-65

top little league world series types will be throwing 70-75

that's like a 100 mph fastball from that distance, a kid throwing that hard will have a decent amount of no hitters in a typical small town league.

big difference in 8-9 year old development and an 11-12

if that boy grows right, he could be in the 60-70 range in a few years

OK makes sense. he is still in coach pitch so never pitched. He is very wild but has a good arm

Speed doesn't mean much if you cant locate a pitch.

    This

Granted the reason they have coach pitch is to prevent 1000 walks, but if you actually want to teach him to pitch never bring the radar gun again and just work on mechanics and throwing strikes.

Don't let him throw anything but a fastball until about age 16.

He should be popping 48-52mph to legitimately be looking for early scholarships , by 12 , if he's hitting 68-72 , you'll need to sign him on a contract , he will be the next Nolan Ryan .
I would advice you waking him up daily , around 5 am , get him some pitching reps in .
Also note drunkhorseplayer , he is right , these coaches are destroying kids trying to get them throwing 3-4 different pitches while not even at puberty yet , fastball and location is key for now . Every time he misses his spot , it's Sprint time , keeps him in tip top shape also .
If you need details on how to manage , oversee contracts as an agent , contact LaVar Ball , he is excellent , should be able to lead you in the right direction .

They throw at least 42-44 mph. Heard someone's nephew just threw that on a radar gun.

    nice reference

psu podcast guy just did a topic on "recruiting dads"....that's a classic name, he wasn't going to name any recent names cause he's a stand up guy, but couldn't help himself at naming ricky town's dad (who was the #1 qb and has been to about 5 schools)

Talk to me when he is 16 or so and dominating HS other than that a waste

Every parent thinks their kid is great and 96% are whore shit

Otter your a gambler man not a scout
