Is AnyBody A Paramedic Or Have A Family/Friend Who Is

That can tell me some legit pros and cons

I’m about to start this journey

I like the idea of two 24 hour shifts a week for 48 hours weekly

I believe they should make a bit more though

Almost went down this route but went surgical tech/1st assistant instead. Cousin is one though andoved it. Also a great window into other professions in med field. Very underpaid for the work and what they deal with

I have a cousin that did it in the city and a nephew that volunteered when he was in school

It's not the gore that wore on them but rather the disturbing realities they'd come across

Infants and toddlers with single parents constantly ODing

Weighs on your mind over time

I’ve already seen it all so I should be good there
held 2 people who died basically in my arms on separate occasions
one was a stranger and another a friend who was stabbed
Although idk about the kid thing you brought up
not sure how well I’d do there

I was a paramedic for about 5 years

Pros- can Be fun at times, become good at patient assessments in a short time, good with skills such as IV’s/airway management, etc... great spot to start a career in the medical field

Cons- Pay, poor education, you’ll become way too familiar with the homeless population and with nursing home residents, not a great job to make a career out of, not much of a career ladder, you’ll see shit you’ll never unsee and no one else will ever understand it

If you want to use it to get on a FD, go for it. Pay would be decent with OT, you’d have a pension, union job, sit around all day and get fat while getting paid so basically it’s the American dream.

In hindsight, I’m glad I went the paramedic route and I’m glad I moved on from it.

You gotta take my word when I say I’ve seen all kinds of shit
whether I put myself in the situation , bad timing , or directly involved

So outside of kids being involved I truly don’t think the tough scenes
would overtake me .....but no one can be 10p percent certain

Here's the bottom line when choosing a career

Take money out of the equation

Is this something you have a heart and will to do because it's your calling?

Are you cut out for it?

Will you give 100% when you go to work?

I have a couple close friends who are paramedics, kraken brought forth some good points. I was going to bring up the homeless thing as my 2 friends complain about that alot. I think it depends where u are stationed also, they both are good people and wanted to make an impact helping others but alot of the time they are just dealing with the same circle of homeless people every week. Also it is physically demanding so you should be in somewhat good shape if u are thinking about that route. Bol with your decision

On a serious note, I guess I’m going to give it a run though
not like the job I’m at detailing floors and painting, and maintenance
is a great job or one I’ll regret leaving ....even if paramedic thing doesn’t pan out
I make 14 a hour and an additional 200 bonus a month but meh
Would suck dealing with the same people everyday though , homeless or not

Paramedics in Ontario in such regions or cities as Ottawa, Toronto, Peel Region, or Durham, will have an annual salary starting from $70,000 to $90,000 as a Primary Care Paramedic, an Advanced Care Paramedic salary can on average range from $80,000 to $100,000, and Critical Care Paramedics range from $100,000 to ...

Wish you well down that path. I wanted to be a firefighter years ago, but didn't go through with it because the pay is ridiculously low. Paramedics, Firefighters, and Police Officers should all make more money.
