I think they were searching today, that was just a call for a search for tomorrow for volunteers.

We are in need of an update though, last one was like 23 hours ago.

They better have been searching today. No excuse for them not. What about money donated? Thought they using that for more help? Every minute wasted is not good

    ?

because people are starting to fear the worst .
If any of us went missing with our car found in a area
and a search team being unable to locate is for A WHOLE WEEK
there would be a general consensus that portrays a bleak outlook

I do wish the thread would go away and he’d return but neither are likely
at this point , it stinks

If it is Dave, at least his dear Mother, family and friends can have some closure.

Fuk man, this is becoming a reality that nobody deserves.

I'm just heartbroken, sick to my stomach. This guy touched a lot of people and I believe there's been nothing but love and kind words about him.

It must so surreal for those of you that are closer to him. My prayers are for peace and mercy on everyone involved.

Still a small chance it’s not him

and if it is him , then the body will prolly answer a lot of questions

I agree about the closure part, but still would be gut wrenching news for loved ones

LAS VEGAS - A body was found in the Mt. Charleston area Friday afternoon. The body was found near Mummy Spring.
Missing hiker David Malinksy was last seen hiking near the North Loop Trail last Saturday afternoon, which connects to the Mummy Spring Trail.
There's no word on whether the body found is that of Malinksy.
    No other details were released.

Yeah, that's part of what I mean when I say nobody deserves this; the entire affected circle. Closure of some kind can be helpful.

If it is him, I can't imagine going an entire Life wondering where your son, husband, father, brother is and what happened to him. It has been really cold and windy here this week and I think he may have got lost or fallen. He was obsessed with Bristlecone Pines I hear (and trying to save the trees) which are at higher elevations. Probably was going, or returning from taking pictures. I saw a write-up about the trail he was on and saw the adjective "treacherous." Many get lost or suffer dire consequences hiking in the areas around here (Red Rocks, Mt. Charleston, Grand Canyon). If it is him, at least the man was doing what he loved, what he really wanted to do that day and with Mother Nature. Really hard to try to process. Only news station that had anything. So wrong to do, but I hope it is someone else they found looking for him. Will stay on and provide an update if they talk about it. This just happened.

You clearly don't hike often, it doesn't happen often but it's not unheard of either. Especially for experienced hikers that get off trail and even more so if you
're in snow or ice. All these things add risk

Yes, I do not hike in the remote side of the country.

All it can take is one misstep, which happens often. There's an average of one death a month at the grand canyon.

Just curious, that's all. I understand one can die while hiking in amazon forest or any other treacherous places. I found most of the parks in US are safe for hiking, maybe, I'm wrong.

    https://io9.gizmodo.com/each-year-250-hikers-have-to-be-rescued-from-the-grand-1603180993

    sorry for my ignorance.

There are signs all over the rim that say "Down is optional; Up is Mandatory", along with graphic depictions of what happens to hikers who suffer heat-stroke. "Don't be one of the over 250 people we have to rescue each year" is the basic message. And those are generally fit people who think they CAN do it, and overestimate their abilities. When I visited last year, there was a signboard on the North Rim with a picture of a woman on it. The sign said, "Could you run the Boston Marathon?" The basic message: the woman pictured had run the Boston Marathon. Then she came to hike in the Grand Canyon, misread her hiking route, underestimated the amount of water she would need, and died out there on the trail.
