Yes you're getting a paycheck for what will likely be a 99.999999999999% chance you'll never have to deal with a shooter, but you're getting paid to answer that call if it does happen. From the training I've been to, the protocol used to be contain the situation and wait for backup since most man with a gun calls were robbery or a situation where the gunman had a desire for self-preservation. After Columbine happened though, the protocol became you go in and engage the shooter since an active shooter won't stop until they run out of bullets or kill themselves or be killed.
