Major League Baseball announced a 100-game suspension for Houston Astros minor league first baseman Jon Singleton after he failed a third drug test.
Singleton, 26, signed a five-year contract worth $10 million in 2014, when he was considered one of the top prospects in all of baseball. Singleton has only appeared in 114 games over two seasons for the Astros, who acquired the prized left-handed slugger in a 2011 trade that sent Hunter Pence to the Philadelphia Phillies.

“Throughout our system, our players are educated through MLB’s Drug Prevention and Treatment programs," said Astros GM Jeff Luhnow in a written statement. "Therefore, it is disappointing when any player is in violation of the policies that are in place."
In his time in the majors, Singleton has posted a .171 batting average/.290 on-base percentage/.298 slugging percentage with 14 home runs and 50 RBI. Singleton also struck out in 151 of his 357 at-bats.
Singleton spent the 2017 season with the Astros' Double-A affiliate in Corpus Christi of the Texas League. He hit .205 with 18 homers and 62 RBI in 117 games.
MLB also announced Astros right-hander Dean Deetz failed a drug test and has received an 80-game suspension. Deetz, 24, split his time at Corpus Christi and Triple-A Fresno in 2017.
