UCF Proves There Should Be An 8 Team Playoff

    Big 5 conference winners
Highest rated team from the lower conferences
    2 wild cards

UCF should have had a chance at the National Championship this year.

Should be a knockout competition all the way though. And would be great!

Not sporting to have a bunch of suits deciding which games can make them the most money to end the year.

Agree, UCF deserved a shoot among the big boys and they are currently showing everyone why. A well coached and talented and determined team.

While I agree that there should be 8-team playoff, UCF has nothing to do with it because they would not have been in even if there was 8-team playoff this season.

Well then the whole bowl/playoff system needs to be scrapped LT.......

You know this as well as I do UCF beat a team that beat 2 #1 teams in the nation who are both in the playoffs.......

UCF would beat any of the remaining 4 teams........

Ucf wouldn’t sniffed the playoffs if there were 8 teams anyway.

With my way of doing the playoff, if we had gone by the rankings, it would have looked something like this:

    (1) Clemson vs. (8) Wisconsin
    (2) Oklahoma vs. (7) Alabama
    (3) Georgia vs. (6) UCF
    (4) Ohio St. vs. (5) USC

Again, top 5 conference winners, top ranked lower conference winner, and 2 highest seeded non-conference winners as wildcards.

The way I would do it is no playoffs until the bowl season is over......

Then committee picks the best teams to be in playoffs.....

Only way I would be in favor of giving highest ranked Group of Five team an automatic bid would be if they did a 12-team playoff. Which is possible if they give top 4 first round bye. Hey, FCS, Div II and Div III have playoffs, why not FBS? And as I typed that, UCF just completed upset with INT in end zone.

No need, they could do 12-team playoff by tying bowl specific bowls to playoffs. Using this years calendar, all 4 bowl games first bowl day December 16 could have been playoff first round, 4 games December 23rd-24th could have been quarterfinals.

with the amount of extra revenue they could bring in by doing this... they'd be retarded not to. but we are also talking about people who chastise the players for taking a free meal....

There are easier ways to do this. Throw out the final 4 replacing any current bowls in place. The Rose/Sugar/Orange/etc play out as normal. The winner of those final bowl games along with 1-3 at large pre determined bowls is your playoff. It becomes a much larger playoff than the 5-8 teams proposed due to the bowl games becoming play-ins.

To me this would create a pretty clear champion.

Less stupid with 12-team playoff. And I disagree with Mr. KLC in that I do not thing 8 teams is enough to give Group of Five free entry.

ATLANTA -- Outgoing UCF coach Scott Frost believes his team deserved a shot at the College Football Playoff and that it took a "conscious effort" by the committee to keep it lower in its rankings.

After beating Auburn 34-27 in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Monday to finish the season a perfect 13-0, Frost unloaded on a process he described as "unfair."

UCF, which plays outside the Power 5 in the American Athletic Conference, was ranked 12th in the country entering Monday, despite going 12-0 with a conference championship.

"It wasn't right," said Frost, who is leaving UCF to be the coach at Nebraska, his alma mater. "I was watching [the selection show] every week, the committee sitting in a room and deciding that this two-loss team must be better than UCF because UCF is in the American, or this three-loss team must be better than UCF.

"It looked like a conscious effort to me to make sure that they didn't have a problem if they put us too high and a couple teams ahead of us lost. And oh, no, now we have to put them in a playoff? But we just beat [Auburn] that beat two playoff teams and lost to another one by six points, and we beat them by seven."

With Alabama and Georgia winning you will have 2 teams playing for the Championship
    that both lost to Auburn.
UCF will have gone undefeated 13-0 and have ending the season
beating that Auburn team. In that light it's hard not to consider UCF as #1 if one is inspired
    by the game
they played today. But really this format is the fairest yet
to derive at a national champion in the fairest way.

I f it was as it was in 1984 UCF definitely would have been National
Champs. Brigham Young in 1984 was crowned National Champ

going 13-0 without playing one team in the final top 25 ranked teams.
They didn't even play in one of the big bowls beating a

6-5 Michigan team in the Holiday Bowl.

After Marl Wilson, Jim McMahon & Steve Young put BYU on the National
map in 1984 Young went pro and Robby Bosco
    became the QB.
Level Edwards sticking p for his new QB stated if we aren't what
we were in 83 it will not be because of Bosco.

This year UCF played 3 teams in the top 25 & won all 3. Alabama
played 4 teams in the top 25 & won 3. UCF because of their

schedule logically did not deserve the be in the Championship
Games, but in a less fair set of circumstances like they had in 84

they would have been the champs.

Of all the big 5 games played on New Years Day this year the most
indispensable ball player was Milton of UCF!

12 is too many. Hell, 8 is too many some years. I think 8 is a good number with the 5 P5 winners and 3 at large but some years, you don't even need 8. I think 4 with an option to include 5, 6, 7 or 8 is what they should do. For Example, this year, they could make the case that UCF, OSU and USC should have gotten in. So you would have 7 and the top rated team would have a bye. Lower seeds would play on the road for the first game. Then go to the bowls. Some years you may have several teams that you can make a case for them being top 4, so you add them.

but if you go to 12, you're going to get teams that did not deserve another shot. Auburn for example did not deserve a playoff spot but if you go to 12 they would be in when they should be clearly out. Wisconsin and PSU also didn't deserve a playoff spot.

Make it an AND one situation where you can add extra teams if there's an argument. Most years there won't be many extra teams.

In my opinion, UCF got lucky playing an Auburn team that is finesse football which played right into their hands. I think UCF would have gotten smashed if they had to play any of the playoff teams, especially, Clemson, UGA or Bama that go north and south versus Auburn's gimmicky offense that is East/West. Football is a game of matchups and Auburn was a great matchup for them. Oklahoma would have most likely ran them off the field... BUT I know in football ANYTHING can happen, so I would have loved to see them get a shot at the big dawgs. There should have been an AND 1 so they had a shot.

Except Bethune Cookman's administration. They get a huge payday that basically pays for their entire sports budget for the year. These small teams, have to send their players to slaughter in these contest because they have no other way of bringing in money.

I don't think they need to cut a game. We're talking about 4 teams playing 1 more game and 2 teams playing 2 more games. It has zero affect on the other 120+ teams. So why reduce a game for the masses?

what kind of logic is that, the lakers beat the houston, does that mean that lakers should be number 1 seed?

if ucf scheduled auburn during the regular season and beat them they would be in playoffs, they played noone in the top 15, they cant expect to be in the top 4 without beating a top 10 team

There's never been a season, and there never will be one, where eight teams had a legitimate argument that it was the best team in the country. UCF is a nice team; that's all.
