Is internet shopping killing the retail stores?

I just saw on the news bankruptcy filed this year are are up 30% for retail stores....

    http://time.com/money/4812870/retailers-bankruptcy-risk-sears-amazon/

Sporting good stores and others like Toys R Us are dying out quickly... I know Blockbuster movie rental stores closed down near me recently. More and more people are shopping online, I know I am guilty of that.. Amazon is where it's at for me these days for shopping..

Who wants to hop in your car and battle traffic, mall crowds and probably not find a sale in the retail stores? I don't..

    Thoughts?

maybe 2011. that's when all blockbuster stores went belly up. some stayed open till 2014 but his was probably taken over by someone who didn't take down the sign.

The only items that I did not buy online for Christmas this year were items that i had to pick up at the liquor store.

Shopping in person will just down size from what we know now. You'll have stores without inventory or very limited inventory and everyone will have same day or next day shipping.

Not just accessibility, but the biggest difference was price comparison. No more secrets.
Overall great for the consumer. BUT devastated many brick/mortar businesses.
I had a great antique business. The harder I worked, the more I made. Model is DEAD.

I used to like getting baked and walking into vcr rental stores.
sometimes even went behind that curtain if they had one.

Isn't an infraction a little harsh? You're ruthless Rudy!!!

I'm concerned about retail stores.. No one will ever leave the house anymore, everything will be done online.. Including being social...

Dangerous social and retail times we live in... The big disconnect coming to a theater near you...

    Think about it..

    - If you need a pair of shoes or some protein powder Amazon, mailed right to your front door, never leave the house..

    - If you need to be social and get a good laugh you log onto SBR and the players lounge...

    - If you need a date go on Match.com and get one...

    - If you wanna watch a movie and save 15 bucks you stream it and watch at home..

    - If you need action and need to place a bet, no need to leave the house and go to real sportsbook and Casino or get with a shady bookie, place it online..

    etc...

There really is no reason to leave the house anymore and talk to real people.. Welcome to the future!!!! ..

    Rents too high

    Property tax too high

    Employees $15 hr min wage

Retail store sales cannot generate enough profit to cover cost of government.... business model makes money, but internet scale is more efficient.

Don't see any malls adding new Targets, but see plenty turning shops into gyms.

    Perfect post.

    Rent is the key.

Landlords don't want to give up their high style lives... piss on em... have a vacant building then.

Use to be pride having a mom and pop business.... too many payroll taxes.... state's sticking their noises in your operation.

I hate commercial landlords... I want to fuk em up

Guy understands cause and effect of trends in society and when and where there will be impact.

woildnt surprise me if this guy holds a local political office or high power $ man, smaller oracle like Warren Buffett

I'm a commercial landlord.. Come at me bro!!!

I'm one of the cooler ones though... I don't do triple net leases either although I probably should..

I'll tell you though owning and managing commercial real estate is SO MUCH EASIER and way more profitable then owning and managing residential rentals... I say if you are ever considering buying property buy commercial and not residential for investing if there is still a demand for it..

Those little corner shopping centers you see with liquor stores, check cashing, Chinese food, cigar shops, etc. make bank.. I don't own one but I wish I did.. My buddy owns one and is killing it.. Makes like $15,000 a month just off a little one.. Paying off quickly as it's only a 20 year loan.. He does have a Papa Johns leased on it and that's his big income for that corner commercial property..

and this is why I support the trump tax plan. the corporate rate cut can also mean the difference for a business to stay open.

if only people would support local jobs more.
