That had absolutely no bearing. NFL plays on Christmas Eve and Christmas, it would not mind playing New Years Eve night. In fact, it has been done before, always with a big game in regards to playoff implications.

Big difference between Christmas Eve and New Year' Eve night, there are lots of games across all leagues New Year's Eve. Maybe not so much this year with it falling on a Sunday night, but take a quick look at last year on New Year's Eve for NBA, NHL and College Hoops, not to mention bowl games. My point is fact that it is New Year's Eve had nothing to do with the decision.

    Carolina/Atlanta, New Orleans/Tampa Bay, Jacksonville/Tennessee, Buffalo/Miami, Cincinnati/Baltimore have all been flexed to 4:25 ET.

Not true, there have been 4 NFL New Years Eve night games since 2005. This decision had nothing to do with New Year's Eve and everything to do with no pseudo-playoff play-in games this year or anything close to it.

I just looked. The Baltimore high on Sunday is 28 degrees.

I'd be pissed if they flexed my game to a 4pm game.

It is understandable though. The 3 teams vying for 2 AFC Wild Cards all flexed to 4:25.

Should have flexed Jags/Titans. If worried about competitive balance, flex Skins/Giants.

Another dumb decision by nfl brass.

Jags will probably be locked into 3-seed, which would mean resting players.

Should have flexed Browns/Steelers, who wouldn't want to see quest for 0-16?

I wouldn't want to have to play a sunday night game, then have to play a Saturday afternoon playoff game. That may have something to do with it also.

No that has nothing to do with it, there has always been Week 17 Sunday night games in past followed by afternoon playoffs following Saturday. At times, league has taken that into consideration by not scheduling team that played Sunday night Saturday afternoon.

The NFC South and West play late. The NFC North and East play early. The AFC splits it up, with the Jets at the Pats, Houston at Indy, and Cleveland at Pitt all playing early. Everyone else plays late.

i personally think this is the #1 reason. they know they have a crappy product and know no one will tune in if it's a meaningless game.

they are severally hoping for the playoffs to be a hit. it better be a higher quality product. did you see the empty seats throughout the league yesterday? sure the tickets were sold....but next year i expect to see many fans not purchasing tickets as before. should be an interesting story.

Ravens GM actually started calling season ticket holders , seeing empty box seats , and they're in a playoff race hahaha
You can't make it up , hundreds of thousands spent and nobody even going
The NFL is in trouble no matter what anyone wants "to tell you"
People dont spent millions for top notch tickets to not only show up.
Those are lost income next yr

I would have been shocked if there was a Sunday night game. Also glad the college games arent on that day either. But then again they wouldn't out the NCAA playoff at the same time as NFL week 17

There is no game worthy of the Sunday night slot this year. Normally that is reserved for the "do or die" division title on the line game which doesn't exist this season. Even if they moved the ATL-CAR game to Sunday night, if Saints win earlier then Panthers rest all players as they would be locked into 5-seed and have nothing to play for
