Santa came Early -- Windows 10 is almost insufferable

Been having desktop problems for 2 months+

Thought about an Apple iMac but just too costly for Sammy's needs - another thought was using a laptop with ex-monitor , mouse & keyboard

But ended up with: Dell Inspiron 3650 (cheap open box special from Best Buy) full warranty

Am not joking about this... took 4 1/2 hrs to get Win10 Home fully up to date/Upgraded JFC

The first thing I do in any Windows including W10 is turn OFF all updates. Smooth as silk after for years. In W10 you have to hunt for it but I managed to find the way to do it.

    Sammy,

When it comes to computers, you're better off buying high end. It will save you money long term. Best equipment out there is the MacBook Air or an IMAC. They use the best hardware and operating systems. I bought the MacBook Air back in 2010 and it's still the best computer I have. I bought an HP a year ago and it's already failing on me. All you need to know. You're better off paying $1,500 for a good machine that will last many more years. I know that stings for many people, but you're much better off in the long run.

Electricity has become really expensive down here.

When I swapped out my desktop for a laptop my power bills plummeted.

Could never work out how the electricity company said I was using the same power as a 5 person household with only 2 here. Next bill after swapping to a laptop I was way down. Think it was 2 or 3 hundred cheaper for the quarter.

Knew it was most likely the motherboard... so took a shot

Got a new OEM motherboard from Amazon last week. Had enough 'points' to pay for it = 'Free'

Took the Dell XPS8300 apart and installed MB on Friday & Saturday - We are working again!!

    Windows 7 is back

Now we have two working desktops

I have a laptop that has windows 7. I still enjoy it... but hardly use it. I like the desktop a lot.

I was hoping Microsoft would start filtering out all the bugs (on their newer models...) one day I will purchase a new one.

Have fun with your new purchase! Always good getting something new. As long as it works right.

    Got a pop-up on Sammy's Win7 machine this morning from M$

All good things must come to an end, even Windows 7. After January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7.
