Iliteracy rate the highest in California..

California pound for pound leads all states in the stupid category.. Saw this on the news today.. Here is a link.. https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-il...est-of-the-USA.. Google for yourself... Illegal immigration is mostly to blame..

Illegals and immigrants in general are clogging our public schools. . Immigrants in high numbers are coming over lacking basic education skills and are driving up the illiteracy numbers..

    I live in a stupid State ...

Across the literacy scales, between 56 and 59 percent of the California residents who were born in other countries demonstrated skills in Level 1, compared with 13 to 16 percent of the native-born residents.

Open boarders would be a disaster for America... Remember this people.. Build the Wall!!!

    Mush
Maybe it’s a family dinamic situation that government can never solve
    Only a solid family structure
Whether it be the tradition family or the non-traditional family.
Illiteracy is caused by not going to school
    Public or private
    Gotta go to school though
Lots of homeschooling these days because the public system doesn’t work.
    Why
Because of violent and disruptive behavior in the classroom
    Why
Family any type of family just doesn’t exist like it was

This is the core of our world going forward
    Wish I had a solution
In my opinion it’s a family and a morality problem that will never be solved by a government solution.

the family is a microcosm of society, if the average family is ignorant, its because society is ignorant. and yes the government has a huge role in it

look at what is happening in the states, celebrities are worshiped, while educated people are ignored, sometimes even vilified

in the states right now, it is official government policy to ignore scientists and scientific research. non scientist, and most of the time, science deniers are being positioned to fill government roles that require science education and background

and the school system has been messed up for years, it incentivizes schools to make tests easy, instead of teaching students properly

look at trump, he got into wharton by family favour, he never attended class, and now has a degree from a 'prestigious' school. apparently purchasing a degree is not uncommon in the u.s.

The illegals that come here from the south can barely read and write their own language. They're the dumbest of the dumbest. If they had any smarts, they could make it in their own country. They just come here for the handouts that they wouldn't get in their country.

I think that this was a problem that was on the rise long before Trump's recent 10 month reign. I highly doubt anyone(in 2016 to 2017 anyways) that lives in California would think that anything that Trump does would be considered "Hip"

So they just started this trend when Trump got elected?

Clinton got 4 million more votes than Trump in the most illiterate state in the country, and people are offended when there is questioning into the legitimacy of the voting in that state?

new york and california are the two areas with the highest illiteracy and both voted clinton, fair enough

but these states also have the best and brightest the united states have to offer, that is why they are the two most prosperous states, where everyone wants to be in, ny is the financial center of the world, while la is the IT capital of the world

also, if we accept the op premise that those illiteracy figures come because of illegals, that means they were not eligible to vote, which invalidates your claim

also, i dont consider anyone that voted for hilary smart

people are ignorant on both sides, they think they have democracy, when the truth is they only had two horrible options (i admit i consider trump 10 times worst), those were the two options they were given by the ruling class, and they weren't even real options, its like giving the guy on death row the choice of the noose or the chair

well, republicans claim that trump turned the economy around in just his 10 first months, and without any major legislative changes, so i guess that means it is possible that he also created the illiteracy problem in this short timespan

Jibbby - Did you really post a graph back in 2003 to substantiate your claim???

I think you are oversimplifying in thinking immigrants is the problem. It's the overall school system in those states. California and Florida have some of the worst public schools in the country. Kids in those states drop out at record numbers. White kids in Florida are dropping out at almost 60%. That is insane. Why do you think you hear so much stupid shit in Florida? This is not a white, brown, black, yellow immigrant issue. In fact, Asian and Indian kids in those states, come over here not speaking a lick of English and in a few years, they are ahead of our kids that was born here. Hispanic kids have not caught on to higher education in droves because they've been taught/conditioned to value work over education.

We are all products of our environments. Blame the system, not the kids. C'mon man...
