NJ sports gambling case: Supreme Court leans toward allowing bets

    http://www.foxbusiness.com/features/...wing-bets.html

U.S. Supreme Court justices on Monday signaled a willingness to let New Jersey legalize sports betting in a case that could pave the way for other states similarly interested in allowing such gambling as a way to fill their coffers to do the same thing.

Like many said why does it matter??

I can sit home and bet and get paid 20,000 bitcoin within 3 days and have every possible event on the board all over the glove 24 hrs a day 7 days a week

Will not happen in Vegas or NJ ever

Offshore is just miles ahead of Vegas and Vegas had 50 year head start

My only worry, if this does sweep across the nation, is the higher vig charged.

JJ, there is no difference between offshore and Vegas in the end, originators are still originators. The inside people have not changed.

Some people are fooled into thinking one side is "miles ahead" of the other when there is, in the end, only one side. A perfect example would be those that eat up the idea that Vegas moves off of Pinnacle, and are reinforced when Pinny moves first. It's an illusion.

Remember, the government let's the industry run offshore, with paltry financial regulations to make it look like they are worried about a loss in tax revenue. It's a bit like the War on Drugs, which was never really a war.

US players bet offshore because the government and Treasury let them, not unlike Bitcoin trading.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

But for the locals I think this is warranted...

Of course if they offer phone wagering I’m going to have an account in New Jersey but if it’s just walk up shop so I won’t be going because it’s too far

It is A LOT EASIER clicking buttons on a computer than handing actual cash to a lady at a window. Same thing with card.

US court just allowed IRS to move against bitcoin and other crypto .... soon as you go buy over 20k.... they will be after anyone. They want to know everything. Expect to get audited....coinbase already handed over everyone's name.

    just a heads up

In NJ after a year of small turnout to place wagers in person they will offer internet wagering

It may then become the same as offshore

agree... nobody is going 15 minutes - 3 hours driving and pay for parking to bet $100 ...they know it too... they have no choice but go online. Sports books will be using same software like in nevada since most are the same owners.

The phone wagering model is only good for special clients. To open it to everyone is a customer service nightmare. Too much overhead and if they didn't get people to answer phones, you could get a busy signal for a long time.

Internet is the obvious choice there.

I said this about legalized marijuana. Those that smoked it already have better cheaper more convenient ways of getting it. We all know how successful recreational sales have been.

They always have been. Nearly everybody here got their bitcoin by linking a clearing house connected bank account.

The deed was done then. Many people just didn't realize it.

But a lot of them will drive to their local racetrack, go into the newly designed sportsbook, order some drinks and food, bet the 1 o clock games, get some halftime bets in, then bet the 4 o clocks, then bet the Sunday night game and go home and watch it. Then rinse and repeat for next week...... and March Madness...... forget about it -- it will be a zoo. Now are they going to drive 90 mins on a Tuesday night to bet the Suns-Pistons game? Not so much.....

You can bet that you will need a SS number to wager and there will be some ridiculous tax added. Only have to look at NY OTB. They had it all to themselves and went bankrupt.

As many as 14,355 accounts? That's not really a lot of accounts. That's peanuts to what's going on daily.

NJ has many radio and TV commercials and hiway billboards advertising their casino gambling ONLINE

If and when they get sports gambling I am curious how and how much they will advertise it

Will they have testimonials of players who hit a 10 team parlay?, haha

Will they give bonuses for players to open an account and play ?

Yet his administration is against. That's like saying he is for increased taxes yet pushes legislation to lower them. Makes no sense. He is obviously not pro gambling.
