McAdoo benched Manning because he blamed him for the poor offense execution.

Basically humiliated Manning by not starting him... and breaking his consecutive start streak.

Such a shame. McAdoo may not find a job for the longest time because of it. Total a$$hole.

I thought after the decision that he went back to Manning and offered him the starting role yesterday, and it was Manning who said "Start the other guys"

I don't know where you heard that from? I don't think any Manning would say go ahead and start someone else (especially knowingly you have a start streak.) Must be some misinformation somewhere.

Such crazy drama for a professional organization.

Far too many NFL teams have far too much inner turmoil this season. In the long run it probably doesn't matter because fans still tend towards the teams they live near, even if they don't attend games.

Manning did say that. It was all over the news a few days back. He said if they were just starting him to put someone else in for half the game then he felt it would tarnish what the streak meant. He didn't want to start if he wasn't out there to win the game. Manning was basically crying at his locker when he was telling it to the media. After that McAdoo started getting shelled by the media and players.

McAdoo hung himself by doing this. The only way this works is if he was going to start Webb and see what he had. Then fans may have had more understanding. To do that and then start Smith, who no one believes will be their next QB, was basically going to get him fired. In what was already a lost season and then to destroy a streak by the QB that made the Giants was completely stupid.

Just to think that Tom Coughlin is now executive vice president of the jaguars and how they have turned around.

this wouldve worked if you started eli and then pulled him when the gmen were inevitably down like 10-17 pts at half in most games

Manning probably said it to be non-confrontational. He seems like that kind of person... but.... he's still a competitor. Nobody wants to be benched. McAdoo always blamed Manning for the poor offense. It was McAdoo's way to get back at Manning... clearly.

Giants organization waited until the game was over... and did what they had to do. That was very humiliating what they did to Eli.

If Webb started he would break Peterson's record of 5 INT in 1 half

The owner Mara underestimated the reaction and doing PR damage control in firing them today, trying to make it sound like he didn't have part of the decision on benching Manning. Does anyone really think they benched their 2 time SB winning QB with a start streak without the blessing of ownership?

100% right. they ran Coughlin out of town and Kevin Gilbride a few yrs earlier. Neither of them were the problem. The giants offense was very good and explosive under Gilbride. heck they even had a running game. since Mcadoodle has been there the offense stinks and they can't get a frickin yard running. I'm a life long giants fan and I've never seen a team get stuffed on more short yardage plays then the Giants have over the last 3 yrs. His scheme to run the ball is terrible

Mcadoodle was in over his head. he had a job that he really wasn't qualified for. he's tight with Mike McCarthy and that's basically how he rose to power in the NFL. he was our TE coach as a grad assistant when I played at Fairfield U and then he landed a job with Pitt, and then McCarthy got him a job with NO and eventually under him in GB.

he actually took full ownership of the benching today saying if you're to blame anyone, blame him.

Ignorant they didn't do this before last week as to not let that pathetic ass coach ruin Eli's streak before being shown the door.

McAdoo not much of a coach - but benching Eli without Mara's and Reese's blessing? No fukkin way. And I seriously doubt it was even his idea.

This whole mess is on John Mara, who meddles more than Jerry Jones.

Fire coach, start Eli again....same result. Go back to Geno and the rookie for the rest of season.

At least they wore the old school jerseys yesterday.
