    America needs a new big time summer sport.

    Let's face it, most Americans find baseball unwatchable.
    Nobody I know anymore actually sits and watches a full
    baseball game until the playoffs. Even then, most barely
    pay attention.

    Those who do are only interested in their childhood teams,
    the ones their family brought them up on.
    Local sports talk radio is more about politics and other sports
    than it is about baseball because nobody cares.

    People who sit in stadiums are preoccuplied with their smartphones.
    They are more interested in tweets and instragrams than the next pitch,
    unless there's something really going on in the game, which in baseball
    is about 4% of the time.

    As gamblers, this time of year is very boring. Soccer is the ever-present,
    also unwatchable and totally unpopular boring bet. Tennis has a couple
    majors, but it's a fringe game. We should have a BIG SPORT to challenge
    baseball for popularity. Something exciting and new.

    TBT is fun to watch. Well, for me as Boeheim's Army is always in it. It's fun to watch guys you remember from all different colleges who just didn't make it in the league, or didn't last too long. They could probably expand on it a bit.

    Football would nice. Maybe something similar. Guys who couldn't cut it in the league play some sort of tournament.

    NFL minor/developmental league. A bunch of practice squad guys and fringe players.

    player salaries are all the same. Add a per down played bonus. And each player gets a bonus when the team wins. Add on player bonuses determined by fan vote. Like three per team per game.

    Not only would I watch but I might even go.

    Something along those lines would do well, I think. Problem is those guys are probably working out to try to make the NFL. Would have to get guys who tried, and failed already, that know they have no shot. Make it like TBT, and winner takes all.

    That's why I said NFL minor league. It's affiliated. Every NFL team has a minor league club for talent development, etc. I say talent because I mean more than players. Both on the field and back office talent. It would also be a good place to test rules changes and develop officiating.

    No current players under anything other than a practice squad contract could be eligible to play, except for one rostered player allocation. Each team would be allowed to have 2 players paid over the set player salary (for big name washouts, to generate more interest).

    10 game season to start with. There is no divisions/conferences. Best teams make the playoffs.

    I agree, would be great for us gamblers. Im all for moving NBA season later, must admit I wouldnt mind if pro or college football was played in summer and the other in the fall. Both nba with college basketball together leaves me mainly betting and following college basketball or Im overextended. Same with nfl and college football, I only mainly follow and bet college, both is too much to be looking over.
