If we lose Net Neutrality, you would be limited from accessing services that don't make an agreement with your ISP... possibly by bandwidth caps or throttled, slowed connections.

Also the VoIP traffic would be degraded and more than likely you would have to ask your mom to get you a landline so can still call Coach.

So do you think it's good or bad, Otters?

    Save the Internet › net-neutrality-what-y...
Net Neutrality is the basic principle that prohibits internet service providers like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon from speeding up, slowing down or blocking any content, applications or websites you want to use. ... Net Neutrality is the internet’s guiding principle:

I just told you what's going to happen.

I don't know who your ISP is, but say it's a Comcast. You get online one day and try to access a video on a small video hosting site, that doesn't have an agreement with Comcast. You have a great connection speed, but the streaming video quality is still crap. Why? Well that's cause Comcast decided to throttle bandwidth for that particular site. You will have unlimited amount of bandwidth though to stream videos from your Internet provider.

Same thing applies to VoIP services like Skype, Vonage...etc. If they don't sign a contract with Comcast - you'll lose the connection quality when you try to use their services.

But forget consumers - one of the biggest impacts would be on small business, that now would have to pay ISP for data prioritization. Right now everyone is being treated equally, regardless whether traffic is coming from Amazon or OttersFiveDimePicks. But that will change as soon as the Net Neutrality ends.

As a small business owner, especially one who sells products or services through the internet, you rely heavily on your website to bring in business. Many businesses already don't have enough funds to stay afloat. Now imagine being told by a company like Comcast that in order to allow your users to continue to browse your site at high speeds, you will need to pay a hefty fee for data prioritization. You would almost assuredly not be able to make those payments.

Amazon is actually protesting it along with Facebook and other big tech companies.
I mean they would have to pay a lot of money to get their traffic prioritize - and that's a lot of traffic to pay for.

well for one the internet service providers will probably increase their profit by multiples of 10

and then you will have the businesses that will pay to have priority, effectively eliminating their competition that either doesnt want to pay or cant afford to pay and will loose most customers to the former, essentially forming oligopolies, monopolies, lots of people losing their businesses, their jobs, and the consumer losing the ability to choose, having to buy whatever they allow him to and at ridiculous prices

its sickening but doesnt surprise me that its happening in the land of the free

We would lose torrent, free live streams. Companies never went bankrupt when MP3s were free to download since the beginning of the internet. No reason for companies to keep fighting this.

The problem is that net neutrality on the surface "frees" the internet but treats it like a utility which is a backdoor way to more government regulation and the tremendous added cost of this regulation also creates less competition as opposed to more. You also have the danger of the government accusing people of using the "utility" to promote speech and activity that it sees as harmful to the public and as a utility has more exposure to being affected by the government in power.

like any other time the government gets involved in things it doesn't understand; bad.

Now factor in who passed this legislation and why? Obama because he needed a "win."

Now do you still need to wonder if this is bad or good just based on the fact it was passed under obama? Answer should be very obvious.

Anything obama did was solely for the detriment of this country, freedom and free enterprise. That is a fact about anything major he passed. He made his father very proud, they hated this country and white people.

obama protected net neutrality because he understood how important it is to free speech, democracy, and to the quality of life of the average citizen

trump is overturning the legislation because it is an obama legislation, so it must be bad, that is the extent of trumps intellect and reasoning

and you dont like net neutrality because obama supported it, that is the extent of your intellect and reasoning

anyhow you will understand how important net neutrality is when sbr becomes slower to u.s, residents, or even inaccessible
