Can you watch sports with non-gamblers?

Does anyone else find it difficult to watch sports with non-gamblers, especially if they aren't die hard into the game/sport? One of my biggest annoyances is when people try to bet me on games straight up at even money. Talking about them wanting -400 (or higher) favorites at even money.

I hate it, for the most part. I remember I used to watch CBB with guys I played poker with. They knew I bet on games so try to get me to bet them so they could talk shit if they won. They'd want me to offer them even money on games where the team they wanted was favored by 20-25 and that team's actual ML was around -8000.

I hate it. This SB is gonna be tough. Everyone will be relaxed, and not care who wins. As I have to restrain myself from normal behavior.

Nah, you'll be living it up when the Falcons jump out to that 21-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter!

It's difficult, frustrating explaining simple gambling terms when your bet is losing.

All ready pissed you're down and have an idiot saying it was obvious the other side was going to win and why would you waste your money? Women asking what it means when a spread is plus or minus points, and why isn't it just which team will win.

I'm surprised there aren't more gambling related murders on SB Sunday.

A couple of years ago on March Madness first round Friday, I bet the local team as a dog, and screamed "fukk yeah" as they scored a basket at the end of the game to cover but lose.

I got some real confused and dirty looks

I do it all the time. Most people I go watch games with aren't even aware I am betting on the game we are watching. Doesn't really make a difference to me. All of the people that really know me are aware I sports bet but it doesn't really come up unless they ask me about what the line is on a game. Usually if I have a big bet on a game I watch it at home so if there is an outburst no one else is around to here it if things go bad.

I actually find it funny when with a friend that has no idea about what the line is wants to make a bet. There is always some clueless guy willing to make me a bet on his favorite team straight up in whatever game even though his team is a 8 point dog.

    Annoying

Had a house warming party during the week the Ravens played the Giants. My entire family loves the Giants but doesn't gamble, I had the Ravens and of course OBJ buried me. The fam went nuts and I had to keep my emotions inside

U can get some good value betting boxing with friends that don't gamble. One guy gave me Floyd at even money vs Pac-Man cause he was a huge fan.

If you can get friends to give you even odds for a massive favorite, and they're good to pay, can always then take their side for plus money for whatever the bet is. End up even or if the other side wins then everyone wins.

I am too nice. If its a friend I tell them what the line actually is. Sometimes they don't care and still want it straight up but usually give them the points. If it is some dumbass down at a local watering hole then fuk em.

That is a good point. People that don't or haven't ever made a bet at an actual sportsbook don't understand. In my 20s I would talk about bets with people that asked but soon after quit saying anything. Clueless people would ask me what I had anytime they saw me watching a game downtown, like because I gamble it must be on every fukin game they see me watching. That is what became really annoying.

The way it's portrayed in movies the guy who gambles is always betting more than he has and on every single game he can get action on. Hell, it was the mind set when they made online poker illegal. Their phrase "click your mouse and lose your house"

I love this place. Every post has expressed my frustrations with friends, and family knowing I gamble. Or being around them when doing so.

Shit, even strangers. I remember the Royals first shot at the WS. When Gordon almost had an inside the parker in the 9th. I lost my mind and was waving him home banging on the bar. Everyone stopped talking, and looked at me like I was crazy. Justifiable, I guess it was a bit crazy but damn I wanted that bastard to run faster, and go for it.

ya, it is comical listening to people that don't have a clue about gambling. Sure, there are people with problems but its like anything else in life. I just will never understand how if I have a bet on a game, many people will look at me like I am doing something so terrible yet it is okay if they lose their life savings in the stock market the next day. In both cases its a gamble the only difference between the two is perception.

You have to bet the money lines when you hang out with those people and you always bet on their team when you are watching games with them. that way you are on the same page. Worst is when you be the opposite of their team. They get annoying as penetrate when they cheer and act giddy.

I'd get people who would give me shit about betting on college games (because it's illegal!), then they'd proceed to go to Churchill Downs and lose their entire paycheck.

They also never understood what bias is. Why I almost never bet for Louisville or against Kentucky. They'd see me cheering on UK when I had money on them, then ask why I didn't just bet against them because I don't like them. They still never really liked my answer of "I hate UK, but I like money more"

The question should be can you watch sports yourself if you don't have money riding on it?

I have no problem watching sports with just fans that don't gamble as long as they are rooting for the same team I have money on

When I stop over my grandparents and put a game on, my grandpa will ask which team I took, then promptly root against me... rubbing it in when I lose.

that's why they have squares in bars for the superbowl. the non-gamblers are so distracted by watching the scores hoping the numbers land on their square that they aren't that obsessed with the spread and leave the real bettors alone. much the same with the ncaa tournament when the amateurs have their brackets and only care about their team winning and advancing.
