Trent Williams Suspended 4 Games For Substance Abuse

Coming out of their Week 9 bye, the Redskins will be without Trent Williams for a month, as the tackle was suspended four games by the NFL.

The league suspended Williams for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substance Abuse, the NFL announced on Tuesday afternoon.

"Today, Trent Williams was suspended by the NFL under the terms of the Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse for the next four games," the Redskins said in a statement. "We met with Trent today to discuss this unfortunate news. Per the terms of the Policy, Trent will be permitted to participate in team meetings and workout at the Redskins' facilities throughout this time. The Redskins are counting on Trent to help our team when he returns from suspension. Our focus will now turn to the Minnesota Vikings after our bye this upcoming weekend.
"Any questions related to this matter should be directed to the NFL or NFLPA."

This is a highly sub-optimal time for Williams to be gone. The Redskins have four tough matchups coming up on the schedule.

Washington gets the Vikings and Packers at home in Weeks 10 and 11 after the bye and then face the Cowboys and Cardinals (both on the road), with the Dallas game coming on a short week for Thanksgiving.

Might as well put this in a substance using thread:

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Josh Huff was recently arrested for speeding on the Walt Whitman Bridge. Huff was in possession of a small amount of marijuana along with a gun that is registered in Texas.

According to NBC 10, Huff also was in possession of six hollow tip bullets. The arrest occurred on the New Jersey side of the bridge which could spell additional trouble for Huff.

Eliot Shor-Parks of NJ.com reported that Huff was issued a traffic summons for speeding and a Driving Under the Influence.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -- Armonty Bryant has made a solid impression in his brief stint with the Detroit Lions.

That's now on hold after the defensive end was suspended again.

The team announced Tuesday that Bryant was suspended three games for violating the NFL's policy on substances of abuse. Detroit signed Bryant last month. He was cut by Cleveland at the end of a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

The Lions indicated that this suspension was not related to anything that happened since Bryant joined the team - and it didn't come out of nowhere.

''When we signed Armonty, we knew additional discipline from the NFL was a possibility due to an incident that occurred in 2015,'' the team said in a statement. ''Since joining our team, Armonty has met our expectations on and off the field.''

GLOUCESTER CITY, N.J. (AP) -- The lawyer for a Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver facing charges for driving with an unlicensed gun in New Jersey says that he is licensed to carry in Texas.

Fortunato Perri Jr. says that Josh Huff is licensed in his home state and that the gun was not loaded when he was stopped on the Walt Whitman Bridge on Tuesday morning.

Huff faces charges for possessing the gun without a permit in New Jersey and for the magazine found with six hollow-point bullets. Police said he also faces a disorderly persons offense for having less than 50 grams of marijuana.

New Jersey has strict gun laws and does not recognize permits issued in other states.

Perri says Huff posted 10 percent of his $25,000 bail and was released Tuesday.
