Anyone else in s Florida getting nervous about this hurricane?

Lived here 6 years in west palm never been in one. Was going put hurricane Windows on my house but was 15k for 6 windows so decided not to. Might pay for it now. Live about 7 miles from the ocean. This hurricane is starting to make me nervous and have no clue where to start with boarding up these windows

Im in FL but on the Gulf side and have been through a bunch of hurricanes, I dont have to fear this one it looks like. I think your a little early on boarding up, but you should have the wood pre cut so come Monday if its coming your way you can get the windows covered. I live right on the water and 3 years ago I changed out all my windows to 140 mph impact glass, 22 windows/doors it cost a small fortune. I did save almost 20% on my hurricane house insurance though so over time they may pay for themselves. Good luck.

    later

Just had a cat 1 blow through here a month ago. Knocked the power out for 5 days and trees down everywhere. Not fun

Go get water & gas. Food you don't have to cook. Maybe freeze a bucket of water to keep food cold as long as you can. Charge up your stuff, get a car charger for your devices. If it hits, It'll be a long few days

This. Stock up on water. If you have a generator make sure you have gas. Biggest thing is having wood ready to go. If you wait till last second you will have lots of company at hardware store. Will be a madhouse. Make sure tools are charged now so you don't go to drill and have no power. This one is strong so if it doesn't hook into Atlantic like it's supposed to it's going to cause some damage. If it lands don't stay home. Get inland. Right now figure out what your taking when you evacuate and what your not (family and pets obviously but valuables, paperwork, etc). They will shut down bridges at some
Point so if you have to get across bridge give yourself enough time to pack and get out.

Thanks guys it's crazy not knowing what to expect I know the townhome I live in lost all its Windows and its roof and the front door during Wilma. Luckily my hoa covers all damage to the outside. I am more worried about my dogs and my young son with no power for a few days. My job actually will pay for the days I miss and pay for a hotel if I evacuate which is cool but hard to find a hotel with 2 dogs and a cat. my wife also just bought me a 2014 Mercedes and we live in a very low area so I don't want to leave it. Guess I will watch and see where this thing turns. Not going be fun either way

This, especially the driver part. Coming from Chicago I've never seen such horrendous driving here in Louisiana..guess that's the reason for #1 highest insurance rates in the country

    Good luck bud

If it's a CAT 4 the windows may not break but they could be yanked off their sills and fly off and the roof could be torn off the house frame if the rafters are not secured with hurricane ties and straps.

WTF? $15k for windows??? I'm glad you didn't get duped on that shit. Go to Home Depot and buy some plywood. This shit ain't rocket science. You basically board up your windows so they don't get hit with flying debris. You don't need some ridiculously thick wood either.

When I got that quote I was like I don't even have 15k worth of crAp. We don't have normal Windows we have 6 large sliding glass doors. 3 on the bottom floor and 2 on the balconies on both rooms upstairs They put these on a lot of the older town homes here.

Damn, that's crazy man. I use to have those huge ass sliding glass doors on a house as well in South Florida. Get you a bunch of plywood and cover that shit up if it looks like you're in the path. You can screw or hammer plywood on top of plywood if it's not tall or wide enough. Those sliding door glasses are strong as shit. you just want the plywood to get in the way of flying debris. 120 mph winds probably wouldn't break that glass. lol
