With Giancarlo Stanton Gone For The Year, Who Gets The 2nd NL Wild Card?

The Marlins were already fading back to the pack, but I think this will officially finish them for the year. Mediocre teams vying for the playoff spot. Rockies are only 5 1/2 back, and the Phillies are 6 back. I think the Mets get it together, and take the spot though.

Mets still have a shot but they need to string some wins together asap.

Don't know about not being close but agree with Cardinals.
Best thing to happen to them is Heyward not signing.

Cardinals have some holes that need patching up, but they always seem to know how to get themselves there.

And a weak, limping, 83 win Cards teams is way more dangerous in the playoff than a 100 win superman Cards team. Just sayin. Might be betting value there.

This actually helps the Marlins. Other players will step up and get it done.

Stanton been playing like shit most of the year... Problem is there closer is on DL and 2/5 of there starting rotation... Plus Bour is out as well which provides good pop.

stanton needs to get rid of that face guard. i know he took one there and it hurt, but looks wimpy and must affect his swing. marlins got stuck signing a guy who does hit hr's but not worth the money.

Cardinals...and they are not even that good this year. They are just "less bad" than others and should get it by default.

Only one spot left, either Giants/Dodgers gets first one.

Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said Sunday that Giancarlo Stanton (groin) plans to return to the Marlins before the end of the regular season.

Stanton was diagnosed with a grade 3 groin strain in mid-August, and was expected to miss at least six weeks. If he comes in at the low end of that range, he could return in the final week of the season, where he hopes to help push the Marlins into the postseason. It should still be considered a long shot, but perhaps the Marlins' star slugger isn't quite finished for 2016.

As a Cubs fan I don't want to play the Giants or Cardinals in the NLDS. But, it looks like it's a real possibility those are the 2 wild card teams. The ideal scenario is the Marlins where we only have to face Jose Fernandez once because of him pitching in the wild card game. Dodgers also wouldn't be as daunting as Cards/Giants. Cardinals aren't very good, they just scare me.
