Not saying he needed to die, but if you are in the cops position and you know he has a rap sheet a mile long, and is known for weapons charges. I don't work for BRPD and know based on the 2 videos I saw the guy brought it on himself. It's an odd thing, I've never put myself in a situation to be pinned down by the police. I do know that if it were to happen I wouldn't reach for a pistol because I would know and expect to get shot.
