Its a tuff call man. Kinda sucked sunday messi missing his copa penalty kick, hence chili winning copa and then messi quitting argentina national team forever. At least ronaldo hit his today.

    ...

.... and yes, that's sad! Messi quitting Argentina. Was that because of frustration or he already had that planned?

Why bother with the Icelands, USAs and Japans of the world. These teams have no depth and no chance to win it. Make it a 6 team tournament of the best teams with the most depth.

Then have separate tourneys for the weaker teams just like they do for tennis in Davis Cup.

I like PKs personally but golden goal and you have to take 2 field players off each team in extra time to open up the game would be an interesting solution

    Kinda like NHL OT shorthanded

They drew 4 times and won once vs Croatia. They may have only won once, but they also HAVEN'T LOST.

Furthermore they didn't draw by design. Outside of Croatia they outplayed their opponents but just couldn't find the back of the net. They completely outclassed Iceland and Austria. How do you say that 27-4 and 23-3 in terms of shots differential doesn't mean anything and they drew by design?

Hungary scored 2 out of 3 goals that were a result of a deflection off our defender. That's just plain bad luck ...

They hit the posts a few times. No need for the keeper to save shots when you're hitting the post. Or when you have a through ball to Ronoldo 1 on 1 was the keeper and he whiffs on it.

Stick to another sport, you don't know soccer....

That way whoever lost the shootout will do everything they can to win in 90 minutes.
Amazing theory, so if it's tied 1-1 or 0-0 then the team who won the penalty shoot-out will just park the bus to preserve the lead !!!!

Or better yet the team that won the penalty shoot out will be defensive from the start ..

    Exactly what we need ....

This is probably one of the smartest things Laker has said. Top 5 at least.

The games that come done PKs are a disgrace. It would be like the NBA Finals coming down to a free throw contest where each one of the starters got to shoot one free throw while alternating between teams.

The only difference is that PKs are probably converted at a higher rate than even that contest would be.

After about the 60th minute today you knew it was going to end 1-1 even with the extra time because both teams were too pussy to go for it. This happens a lot in soccer. It's boring.

I still like my idea of Golden Goal in extra time where teams are forced to drop 2 of their players so essentially it would be 9 vs 9 (including goalies) and I guess less if you have a red card(s)

Teams wouldn't be able to bunker down with so much open space and it would be entertaining as hell.....games would probably end before 120 as teams would be forced to attack

Also who you choose to drop for OT would be a strategy....defenders or attackers?

I feel like if the game ends after 120 minutes and it's still tied, the team that had the least players rolling around on the grass holding either their shin or head like little bitches during the game....should win.

Let me guess, Portugal who out shot Poland and had multiple chances to win the game (CR7 choked) were going to wait 120 minutes to go to penalties and win on a coin flip ...

Did you even watch the game? Portugal wasn't given a clear penalty and Ronaldo had three (3) chances in front of goal and choke. How is that not going for it? They should of finished Poland off in Regular time and then again had an opportunity in AET ...

No one wanted to go to PK's. Everyone knows its a coin flip ... They rather win outright...

I don't understand why people who don't understand soccer feel the need to comment. This isn't baseball or basketball where you can just look at the box scores ....

Thing is you'd end up with some teams playing for 190 minutes and their opponents in the next round playing for 90 minutes.

I guess one way to slightly offset that would be to allow for teams to make as many subs as they want during extra time.

These penalty kicks are becoming a joke. Teams are ok with the games decided on these.

In the olden days, they used to have a rematch a few days later.

Of course that's stupid, but it shows things can change.

I think 90 minutes then unlimited extra time subs and one less player every 15 minutes would work. Golden goal comes back.

    Pk shootout needs to end.

The game isn't designed to properly go past 90 minutes.

The world cup in 2014 had some very wide open group games then the knockout games became tight.

I don't expect drastic changes until at least after Russia if any get made.

Golden goal would not open the game up.

It makes it more defensive since the 1st to score would win.
