Is the Kobe Lebron Debate officially over on SBR

I say yes. Lebron joins MJ, Bill Russell, and Kareem to be the only player to win 3 NBA Finals MVP.

It's close. I like Lebron a little more than Kobe though, partly because he's not a huge fukkin ballhog. Kobe's career shooting % isn't that great...

Can't leave out the Big Aristotle. Most dominant player ever, very few players had a chance to guard him.

i dunno... Kobe had Shaq the rest of them clutch Laker teams... refs vs Sac in 2002 and Phil as legendary coach

they beat on the Magic when the Cavs choked in 09 and then won down 3-2 to Celtics but had both games at home if i recall correctly... and Kobe def didn't have no triple double in a game 7 victory... he actually shot the ball poorly

LeBron now has titles for 2 different teams... back to back titles in Miami, had no chance in 2 of his 7 finals appearances. when he wins, he's the MVP. 6 straight finals appearances so whatever you want about the East they took out the defending 73-9 Champs down 1-3 in record setting fashion which had never been accomplished prior

in the end i may still like Kobe more as a player overall but may rank LeBron's accomplishments ahead of Kobe's as they are indeed different players with differing mindsets

LeBron has won THREE FINALS MVP's

    4 LEAGUE MVP's

If Kobe did not play in the first three championships..
    then Lakers WIN ANYWAYS..

in the first one, Kobe averaged 16 PPG in the Finals vs. Pacers..
    and SHAQ averaged 38 PPG

NOBODY else won the Finals MVP when James played in all games.

Kobe missed TWO GAMES vs. the Pacers (and Lakers still won in 6)

Kobe is no longer in the discussion.

at the beginning of the season, ESPN did the TOP 100 Players ALL-TIME

Kobe was no.12 and Lebron was no.3 behind Jordan and Kareem.
and that is BEFORE this series.

Kobe could NEVER do this. EVER.

    LeBRON BLOWS Kobe away.

Lebron already has MORE Finals MVPs in 7 LESS years.
(and Kobe played in a LARGE market, with a stacked team EVERY year
    until he chased everyone away)

Lebron will never chase away great players.

LeBron loses credit by bouncing over to Miami to a loaded team just to win two titles. Kobe didn't have to leave the Lakers to get his titles. One on one though Bron would kick his ass!

Kobe was clutch and a killer. He went 5 of 7 in the finals and didn't have to get bailed out by Kyrie, Ray Allen, Mike Miller etc etc

I kind of agree with this logic. When you are at the local gym you run with the next 4 guys up on the sideline and you play your hardest for the right to stay on. You dont pull the best guy off every team that comes off the floor for the next 4 games until you have a team that can stay on. These days the GM's should get the MVPs. Even the MJ Bulls... that was a homegrown team.

Thats why I liked Steve Nash. He played cities near his family and made whatever team he was on better. Does it make Kyrie a better player that he was part of operation LBJ?

for the first 3 years yes

but then after getting bounced in the 2nd round of the playoffs... they got dennis rodman and won 3 more titles

It's amazing that the word everyone uses with Kobe is clutch. When the hell was that guy ever clutch? He has one of the lowest shooting % in the last 2 minutes of a one possession game in league history. Look it up. Then look at how he shot the ball in some of his finals games, including the last title vs. Boston. Kobe has done absolutely nothing to be labeled clutch.

I hate using this argument (and it is worse with Kobe as my picture), but Lebron's physical gifts have to be considered as the reason he has been so successful. Obviously he is extremely skilled and has ridiculous court vision, but Kobe's lack of a 6'9", 250lbs body means he had to find other ways to be successful (mainly through his crazy footwork). Unfortunately it led to a lot of bad shot choices and trust issues with teammates but it is what it is.

Exactly. I hate it when people bring up rings. Rings add in other people. Lebron is an all-around basketball beast. Kobe is a phenom, but he doesn't have it all the way around.
