Sidd Finch better be in your top 5. The guy could throw 150mph. None of your pitchers could throw 150mph.

    I actually saw seaver.

The point is when these lists are made most guys on here are too young to appreciate the historically great athletes from the past.

Casing point is maddux. Most overrated pitcher ever. Did jack shit when it mattered.

There's no such thing because you can make a case for 35 players let's get this childish and Kiddish stuff off the board

Have you seen some of the videos you post? Locker room talk at its finest.

That is what players talk is for

Pedro is the best I've seen the last 30 years, never seen a pitcher throw 4-5 pitches at 4-5 different speeds, he said what really helped him was his long fingers that could keep contact with the ball upon release so he could play with and adjust the speed and rotation of the ball accordingly. The 4 year stretch from 1997 to 2000 was really impressive.

This is a bar-stool question. Good q, but different angles. The most obvious consideration is eras:

    * Walter Johnson and Cy Young were so long ago. Like a different game.

    * Koufax was great, but not huge longevity (by his choice).

    * Bob Gibson was an animal.

    * Nolan Ryan is the one guy that gets overrated. Massive Ks, great longevity, but a ton of walks, too.

    * If u forgive Clemens of roids, he's in the discussion. Reality is that he likely got a 2nd wind, b/c of PEDs.

    * Contemporary pitchers, Greg Maddux and Pedro Martinez were great.

Want a one-name answer? I really think it's Pedro Martinez.

The only knock I can think of is that his durability was less than great. Usually did a DL stint after all-star break.

    Old Hoss Radbourn

    His best season?

    59-12 with a 1.38 ERA with 441 strikeouts. Pitched almost 700 innings.

For this outstanding display of durability, skill, precision, gusto and ball throwing ability, he was payed a meagre $3000

    Travesty.

Marichal a guy that many forget about.

I once read he could throw 4 pitches from 4 different arm angles, ranging from almost straight over the top to a totally horizontal side arm.

Thats basically 16 different pitches, each with slight variations in movement, break, speed etc.

T-rob more where I'm at and a great list there. Prefer mentioning guys I've at least seen and not just heard about or highlight reels and yes I'm a historian and appreciate past immensely. Just feel like a jagoff mentioning guys like Walter J, Spahn, Gibson, Sandy etc who I never watched play live. For me Clemens, Big Unit, Pedro, Carlton, current KC pen combined just unbeatable lol.

No matter how good a closer he was no closer belongs on a list of top 5 all time pitchers. He was a failed starter.

Pedro's 2000 season is the best season all time for a pitcher.
1.74 ERA in the height of the steroid era beat the closest starter by almost 2 full runs.
