On Wednesday, Republican presidential candidate John Kasich was subject to a massive backlash, not for his policies or campaign, but for eating his New York City pizza with a fork.

The outrage over his improper handling of the pie got so heated that the Ohio Governor took to national television on Thursday to defend himself."Look, look, the pizza came scalding hot, OK? And so I use a little fork," Kasich told ABC's Good Morning America. "You know what? My wife, who is on spring break with my daughters, said, 'I'm proud of you. You finally learned how to use a utensil properly.’ But, I mean, not only did I eat the pizza, I had the hot sausage. It was fantastic."

Kasich was able to finally finish the meal with his hands, but that wasn’t good enough for some, who noted that he did not properly fold the slice longitudinally, the customary way to eat the classic NYC slice.

"But here's what I've learned: I came to New York, there were like 100 press people there. Get ready, John, because I'll be spending a lot of time in New York," the candidate joked."New Yorkers eat their pizza a certain way. Not just New Yorkers, but around the world," co-host Robin Roberts told Kasich.

"Listen — I was eating pizza before that reporter was born,” Kasich poked back.Kasich isn’t the only GOP contender who has been ridiculed for his pizza consumption form. While having a slice in Manhattan in 2011, Donald Trump became the object of strong derision when he used a fork.
Priorities, people.
