What's big and new is that it includes top players. Some were slam winners.

I've heard of not getting paid enough to influence a game. But Kraken says they get paid too much to influence a game.

"Sorry sir, I was only planning on 4 million over a couple of years, not 5 million. Who would do what they are told for 5 million? It's 4 million or no deal. Thank you sir."

Secret files exposing evidence of widespread suspected match fixing at the top level of world tennis, including at Wimbledon, can be revealed by the BBC and BuzzFeed News.

So they have files saying they suspect fixing...lol. Any files saying there was prosecutable evidence of fixing? Would match fixing even be illegal at this time, before the 2009 "anti corruption code?"

A lot of "should have done" going on here, but no sign of anything actionable.

Reports indicating that bookmakers approached organization that oversees corruption in tennis regarding specific games they believed had been compromised and received no response.

Who are the GS winners specifically mentioned. I don't have time to read the article since AO is about to start I have to get organized, but are we talking like current guys in the top 10 or like people from 15 years ago and one hit wonders that only won 1 slam?

Tennis is well represented, but yeah at around #50-100 is the cutoff, after which you are not making that much, taking into account all the expenses. I would really like to know who in top-50 is supposed to be shady. Until I see some kind of real report with names in it, I am gonna consider this as the usual headline-grabbing BS, especially from a crappy source like BBC, which is just a step above National Enquirer.

Well in the past year they've banned Starace and Bracialli for life from match fixing and anyone who punts/follows tennis tournament to tournament knows who they are well enough. From what I heard Starace threw the Casablanca final he was in so to be dumb enough to do it in a final you get what's coming to you. What's sad is he probably never would have really gotten a chance to win another title so to sell his soul for more money instead of some personal glory is disappointing. But not surprising considering what goes on in Italy with match fixing.

It happens more so in the lower ITF/Challenger levels and there were clear examples like the Dallas Challenger one that was pointed out and Verdasco with the first sets one as someone posted here. To say that it doesn't is as much silly as it is having your head in the sand and pretending it doesn't exist because it does.

This wouldn't be happening if exotics were banned which I have never been a fan of but what can you do...

Yeah, it's well-known that there are some shady players, but Davydenko and Kohlshreiber have been the highest-ranked ones that were mentioned; and there was no solid proof against them. I'd like to see solid proof, besides the usual SBR-style BS about match-fixing. I do not bet on matches involving players outside top-100 anyways.

Kohlscriebber eh? I've followed the guy a fair bit and he does put his heart into it at times. Still the last standing guy who knocked out Djokovic before the QF from a slam and he beat Roddick at an AO as well. He's had a modestly good career but I did feel like he was a tad of an underachiever. Especially when you see guys like Niemenen, Stepanek, Ginerpri and Janowicz make it to the QF of a slam.

Davydenko...a hard one to say, his decline was good timing with the emergence of Djokovic and Murray but i think that stinky stigma will always be with him. Especially with those matches where he wasn't trying.

The he drop the first set, then retire down a break in the second is always the dodgiest, but too me...the dodgiest thing will always forever be Bogomolov retiring on a match point hahaha

TIU is a joke. Match fixing is as a big problem as doping yet they appear to be woefully understaffed. They should keep a keen eye on lower level tourneys where the bulk of the match fixing happens. I watch challenger and ITF events and there are some matches suspicious to say the least. I am pretty sure some players are betting against themselves via their friends when they are a set/break up. Going after organized orime and big betting volumes can only scratch the surface. Prosecuting bigger names only makes the headlines, doesn't stop the corruption. Not to mention they're talking about 2000's which is ancient history considering the professional lifespan of an average tennis player. Who cares about 2008 anymore? It's happening right now.
