    Sounds like a done deal.

They must have thrown a boatload of cash at this guy.

He really is all about the money.

D'Backs have been wanting to make a big splash in free agency this offseason. Wouldn't surprise me if they get one or two plums.

He's one of the few that admit it.

Sounds like he got six years, which the Dodgers weren't comfortable doing. I'm guessing it's going to be about 33 million per.

I can't believe teams continue giving out these deals.

Honestly Giant.... I didn't think he wanted to be there. I don't think it was totally about the money.

He knew he was a good pitcher.... but LA isn't going anywhere.

T have no choice. If they don't it's considered colussion.

What it really tells us is h much coin these teams make.

Not that surprising. Goldschmidt and Pollock are better position players than anyone on the Dodgers. Dbacks are gonna be good

Yeah, I knew they had money, they went hard after Cueto, too.

I'm just dying to see how much he got.

I remember when the Dodgers signed him he pretty much said he was only there because they offered him the most.

Everyone can afford it. Good for the Giants, Dodgers lose him and the Giants don't have to pay him. Of course the Giants are at least 2 starting pitchers short.

Outstanding! Championship. Dbacks have a lot of talent. They get one more arm in the pen and they could be the team to beat.

I agree with you. It'll be interesting to see if the Cuban guy pans out, too.

The Dodgers have a lot of bad contracts.

Did this totally come out of the blue, though?

I swear none of these beat writers know anything that goes on behind the scenes. No one predicted David Price to Boston, or Zack Greinke to Arizona.

Yes these big free agent signing always lead to championships. They lead to nothing. You become the pick of the day in spring predictions, and the June story about why is this team performing so poorly. It happens every year. Greinke might be good enough to be an exception, we will see.

    Greinke's #'s the last 3 years at Chase Field: 6-0 0.65 ERA, 41 K's, 2 HR allowed, .199 BAA

Looks like $195 million over six years.

    $32.5/per.

That's a lot of cheddar for a guy in his 30s already.

Definitely out of the blue. I see 8 hours ago people talking about it, but you would think the people in the know would have known sooner. Last I heard the Dbacks were fielding a trade offer: Shelby Miller for A.J. Pollock. Pretty even trade, but signing Greinke is much better obviously.

Yeah, glad they brought in Larussa to purge the shitty contracts. Only one left is Hill and they have tried to off load him. I bet they go after a #3/4ish starter and stand pat. Pretty solid, exciting roster. Just need Bradley to take the final step. Maybe Shipley comes up, Godley proved he could pitch at a big league level. Hopefully, Corbin is better 2 years out from Tommy John.

Really nice move by the D'Backs wow. They're pretty stacked with bats just have no one in the pen (horrific!) and mediocre starters and Corbin. If Corbin keeps going well, Chase Anderson can keep some of the form he showed in glimpses they're a contender. Goldy is by far the most underated guy in the league give him some support and it's game on.

Honestly didn't watch many d'backs games but it seemed like a bunch of young guys through the line up who had potential but were decent defensively (Yasmany Thomas looked real good at the plate, got some pop). SD tried to buy their way into that division and failed, I don't think AZ will go down that path.

6 years for about $206 million. Lol, I'm so glad. Dodgers rotation is empty. Kershaw is gonna blow his arm out next year.

Look at the top 10 contracts before the winter meetings. Outside of Miguel Cabrera the rest of them are a waste. They are either old or playoff choke artists. For 210 million that Arizona paid Greinke maybe they could get a bullpen, fielding and contact hitters. Starting pitchers can be beat. Look at what the royals did. Teams just sign these players for sponsors and to sell season tickets. You dont have to be a winning team anymore to be a profitable team.

Arizona finished the 2015 season 2nd in the NL in Batting Average & Slugging, 3rd in OPS. They have a slew of young hitting talent, 2 Gold Glovers, one of which is a perennial MVP candidate in Paul Goldschmidt (who also happens to have the best contract in baseball from an owners' perspective). They lack an ace and a bullpen. They got the ace and the #1 or #2 FA available and gave up nothing.

Largest contract per year in MLB history. $34.4 mil per.

When I was in 5th grade Ryne Sandberg made the most money of anyone in the league at 7 million dollars.

Wait as long as you can to have kids, and make them play baseball from the womb. They will be billionaires by then.

Fact. You just reminded me about this. Everyone talked about the Sandberg deal and that was crazy money back then.

Pitchers can't be worth this kind of money though??? They play what??? Once every 5 days??? Come on.

dont need an ace to win a world series especially one isnt proven in the playoffs. that 200 million would of been better off spent elsewhere

They gave up years and year of finances, 60 million is going to have to be in the five years after the deal expires so they are locked into paying greinke for 11 years. they also gave up the 13th pick in this years draft because greinke rejected the dodgers qualifying offer
