Russians will get a little back in Syria and claim that since they didn't have military contact with Turkey, they didn't know that the convoy they hit was Turkish. Standard.

This whole situation could have been avoided by leaving Saddam and Assad in power. Years later it's apparent what it takes to rule these people. Thanks Bush.

Exactly. Then again the Israelis keep pushing to remove all these dictators. These countries need rule by iron fist.

Leaked Ankara UN letter claims Su-24's ‘air space violation’ lasted 17 seconds

Two Su-24 planes approached Turkish airspace on Tuesday morning, a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the 15 members of the UN Security Council said. The Russian planes are described in a document, published by WikiLeaks and Al Jazeera, as aircraft “the nationality of which is unknown.”
The letter allegedly from Turkish UN Ambassador Halit Cevik reiterates Ankara’s claim that the two planes were “warned 10 times during a period of five minutes via ‘emergency’ channels” to change direction.
“Disregarding these warnings, both planes, at an altitude of 19,000 feet, violated Turkish national airspace to a depth of 1.36 miles and 1.15 miles in length for 17 seconds from 9:24:05 local time,” the leaked document said.
One of the planes then left the Turkish airspace, while “plane two was fired at while in Turkish airspace by Turkish F-16s,” Cevik allegedly wrote.
This provided ground for Turkish forces to attack the Russian warplanes in accordance with the new rules of military engagement adopted in 2012 over the deterioration of the situation in Syria.
“Following the violation, plane one left Turkish national airspace. Plane two was fired at while in Turkish airspace by Turkish F-16s performing air combat patrolling in that area,” the leaked letter said. “Plane two crashed onto the Syrian side of the Turkish-Syrian border.”
Russia denies these claims, saying its plane was downed in Syrian airspace, where Russia is conducting an air operation against Islamic State and other terrorists.
Russia’s General Staff said that airfield radar at the Hmeymim base showed that it was the Turkish fighter jet that actually entered Syrian airspace as it attacked the Russian bomber.
Vladimir Putin called Ankara’s actions “a stab in the back delivered by accomplices of the terrorists,” adding that the incident will have “severe consequences” for relations between Russia and Turkey.
There are conflicting reports on the fate of the two pilots from the downed Su-24 warplane.
The Turkmen militia, fighting the Syrian government in the area, claimed to have killed both pilots as they were parachuting from their jet after it was hit.
The Free Syrian Army affiliate, the 10th Brigade in the Coast also said that it is in possession of the corpse of one of the Russian pilots and is searching for another one.
The General Staff said that, according to preliminary data, one of the Su-24 pilots died after being fired at from the ground, while a rescue operation for his partner is underway.
However, Reuters cited a Turkish government official, who said that both pilots are alive and Ankara is working to retrieve them from the rebels.

The basic problem is that Russia has been bombing the Turkmen, who are Syrian resistance fighters of Turkish descent that are fighting Assad. They live in Syria, near the Turkish border. The Turkmen are not affiliated with ISIS. The Russians have been bombing in support of Assad's ground offensives against the Turkmen. Since the Turkmen are of Turkish descent, Turkey has sympathy with them and has been protesting the Russian bombing of the Turkmen, but Russia has not listened. This is why the Russian plane, which was flying over the Turkmen was attacked. It was the Turkmen who shot the Russian pilots while they were parachuting down, in revenge for the bombings. The Russian planes probably violated Turkish air space as well, but that is not the whole reason why one was shot down.

An audio record from turkish pilots communicating with russians has been leaked according to German and Turkish sources in which

"The unknown air traffic position to humaynim 020 Radial 26 Miles.. This is Turkish Air Force speaking on guard you are aproaching Turkish Air Space change your heading south immediately"

    is clearly recorded.

It sure is debatable if Turkey shouldn't have shot down the Russian jet (since that Jet was fighting daesh), but nevertheless Russia doesn't seem to be right in this case.

But anyway, nothing will happen. Which is good btw.

Here's the deal with this incident - this is 100% on Russia/Putin and I'm saying that as a staunch Russia/Putin supporter. When you're warned 10 times not to invade airspace, you best adhere to that. They knew Moslem filth Turkey wasn't their friends prior to this event, so it was just stupid arrogance on their part. Of course the Russian pilots were trying to do the right thing, but that's besides the point.

That said, I want to see Putin nuke the entire Northern Caucasas region (Chechnya, Dagestan, etc.) - that entire region is Moslem jihadi filth who's been attacking Russia for decades now. And then I want him to attack Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon next.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Russian cruise missiles malfunctions in the next few days and lands across the Turkish/Syrian border and lands on a Turkish army post or a Turkish frigate ends up at the bottom of the sea.

Turkey is a member of NATO. What do you think the consequences would be for the NATO alliance if we sold Turkey down the river to Russia?

The Russians were not attacking ISIS at the time. They were attacking a group that opposes Assad.

Don't be gullible. Turkey wants to annex parts of Syria and they shot the Russian plane to get NATO involved. They are setting a trap for the US to attack Russia in Syria on their behalf. Let the Russians do their job in Syria and eradicate the Islamic vermin.

Its seems that Turkey depends on Russia enough that pulling back a lot of that support will be a pretty harsh punishment in its own right.

And do you know what that Turkmen group is?

They are fighting under the umbrella of Jaish Al Fatih (or Army of Conquest). The largest faction of that is Al Nusra Front (which is Al Qaeda in Syria).

Turkey could have easily escorted the Russian fighter jets out of Turkish air space...but instead decided to shoot the Russian pilots out of the sky. Tayyip Erdogan is nothing more than a member of ISIS. This is why Turkey has refused to get involved in the war against terror. The Endorgan's administration keeps buying tons of illegal crude oil from ISIS because it's dirt cheap. Turkey is actually one of the main financial suppliers to ISIS. NATO is useless, France, who is now in a joint venture with Russia to neutralize ISIS is in a way fighting a terrorist group financed by one of it's members, Turkey.

People don't realize that all these Islamic terrorist groups financed by Turkey and Saudia Arabia are as bad as ISIS and Al Qaeda and Taliban. Let Russia destroy them. They have the military to give them hell. If you let them take over Syria they will not be US allies after. They will yell Allahu Ahkbar and Death to America. These guys were dancing in the streets when the planes hit the twin towers. Let Russia destroy them now like they destroyed the Chechens. They know how to deal with Islamic terrorists.
