IF Verlander gets a 3rd No-Hitter how strong are his HOF chances?

I've asked this of a guy Like Mark Buehrle too

3 no-hitters is rare rare rare air

you have a very good career and dominant time and the stuff to do multiple no-no's....

those no-no's gotta take you from a maybe to a yes for the HOF IMO

    your thoughts?

wrong. not that much stock in no hitters. just a fluke thing. if he had 25 1 or 2 hit shutouts and a passel of 20 win seasons or 4 or 5 era titles or w-l pct then he would get in. but no hitters are not that highly regarded in the grand scope of things.

    good point!

    are they still together

I think Joltin Joe Diamaggio was a "maybe" for getting into the baseball HOF but he dated Marilyn Monroe

that put him over the top with the voters

It's impressive but no-hitters as we have seen in the past have no bearing if a pitcher is good or not

He got a 1 hitter tonight, so he's closer to the HOF than if he had gotten the no-no

his first 7 full seasons were putting him on the road for HOF consideration. but the last 3 are costing him despite tonites 1 or 0 hitter (what's really the difference. 0 runs allowed means more) he's 30-30 the last 3 years with an era over 4.00. unless he reverts back to those first 7 seasons numbers with 4 or 5 more of them, he won't get in.

Is there any credit given for 1 hitters?

Is a guy with 2 no hitters and no 1 hitters better than a guy with 0 no hitters and 5 1 hitters?

Fun fact Nokan Ryan and Bob Feller each had 12 one-hitters!

in this day and age an mlb rookie pitcher starting in 2016 has a .01% chance of having 12 complete games in his career

When Ryan was on, he was really untouchable

Still on the bubble as far as I am concerned. One CY and 173 wins, 2000 strikeouts with a mid-3's ERA and having my pitched in his division his whole career is no guarantee.

At 34 years old he is going to need to keep his ERA where it is, pile up another 900 strikeouts and 60 wins if he wants to be a lock. If he doesn't, he could still get in....but certainly not a sure thing.

We ahould be be talking about Roy Halladay....that's a guy that I think should get in, but may have his struggles as well as he retired a bit too early (injury related).

There is a reason that no one has started a threat saying asking how strong Homer's HOF chances are if he had a 3rd.

and there is a reason I used a specific example, in Verlander. the thread is not, "if anyone pitches 3 no-hitters are they a lock for the hall of fame"

guys like Marke Buehrle and Verlander have a very good body of work, which at the time put them nearing the conversation of Hall of very good or hall of fame.

a 3rd no no could be something to put guys like that over the top.

    does that make sense?
