Bird's numbers speak LARGELY over James. Never realized this until now.

Maybe James needs to head back to the gym?

I saw Skip and Stephen A. Smith talking about this the other day.

Skip said he would take Larry Bird in a heartbeat.

Stephen A said he would take Lebron for the first 45 minutes, but then take Bird in clutch time. I was kind of shocked Stephen A had something nice to say about Bird.

Byrd was great. Now all you have to do is use your brain to put those numbers in the proper context (era, surrounding team, "age" in terms of NBA ball played, other factors) and you'll realize how great Lebron is

They are both phenomenal players...Bird the superior shooter of course...but at this stage of Lebron's career it is painfully obvious who the better player is and always will be...it is Lebron...who has been playing by himself for more than 3 quarters of his entire career....The only people who feel otherwise are simply saying so out of age loyalty to Bird's era...but truth has to win out...Bird does not have the size or the athleticism to take on the Spurs by himself with team of scrubs..like Lebron did two separate times in his career ( 2007 & 2015 )

    Bird was once the word!

You young Dolt's should not be giving opinions about Bird at all.
The man had more guts than he had good sense. He was a freak of nature and was as good as any tall white player, ever, until he was injured, once too many times. Probably before he even turned 30? Played handicapped with injuries for his last 5 thru 9 years.

He had a sixth sense about basketball, and also, unconscious.
    Go to bed boys.

    http://nesn.com/2013/07/larry-bird-i...s-walking-out/
If the Celtics are looking for some veteran leadership and a spot shooter as they rebuild, they may consider turning to the alumni club. Larry Bird apparently still has it. Pacers swingman Paul George recently talked to SLAM magazine about his time in Indiana, which includes some interaction with Bird, the Pacers’ president of basketball operations. George talked about Bird helping him when he was struggling in the 2012 playoffs against Miami, saying Bird has always been in his “corner” throughout his career. Then George offered an anecdote. Let’s just say that, while Bird is impressive in the front office, he’s not a stranger to reinforcing just how good of a player he was, too. “He picked a ball up that had rolled over,” George said of Bird showing up at a practice. “He rolled up his sleeves and made about 15 in a row and just walked out like nothing just happened. It was the craziest thing I’ve seen.” SLAM asked George how he and the rest of the team reacted. “We were speechless,” George said. “We didn’t know whether to keep shooting or just to end practice. It was sweet, man.”

    More from The Bleacher Report

Bird was picked on the all-time starting Celtic 5. *3 MVP's in a row, boys.

    Small Forward

Another easy category. Larry Bird is, simply put, one of the greatest players of all time. He is, along with Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain, one of only three players to win three MVP's in a row, and averaged 24.3 points, 10.0 rebounds and 6.3 assists during his illustrious career.

Known as "Larry Legend", Bird is given credit, along with Magic Johnson, for reviving the NBA from bad times.

The man had outstanding outside touch, incredible court vision, and a knack for hitting enormous shots. On top of all that, he had a work ethic and unselfishness that lifted his teammate's abilities.

Bird was the best player on three championship teams, in 1981, 1984, and 1986. He was cocky because he knew what he was capable of, and knew that, when he and his team needed it, he would almost always deliver.

Apologies have to go out to Paul Pierce and John "Hondo" Havlicek, two of the most durable stars and top scorers in Celtics' history. Pierce and Havlicek will always be Celtics legends, they just had the really bad luck of being stuck behind Larry Bird at the small forward position.

I thought about moving one of them to shooting guard, but that position is manned by one of the most underrated players in the history of the NBA.

    Honorable Mention: Pierce, Havlicek
    Dishonorable Mention: Jiri Welsch

and using my brain and seeing how today's product is absolute garbage and how the vast majority of NBA teams don't play defense, I can honestly say that Larry Bird in this era would easily be averaging 50+ points a game without breaking a sweat and that's being on the conservative side...one of the best pure shooters in the history of the NBA...furthermore, just like MLB, with all of these expansion teams, at least 30% - 40% of today's players wouldn't have even made NBA rosters of the 80's!...Kareem, Johnson, and the Lakers...Bird, Mchale, Parrish and the Celtics...Bill Lambieer, Rodman, and the bad boy Pistons teams, Jordan and his Bulls teams, etc!...lots of great teams in the 80's - early 90s...which explains why the original 1992 dream team DESTROYED everyone in their path by 50 - 70 points!......I love all of the bullshit excuses that the total garbage network ESPN and other media outlets try to make for our US mens team when they get beat by Spain, Argentina, China, etc!......how the rest of the world has caught up to us, how every country is playing basketball now, blah, blah, blah!...no, it's because today's players stink compared to the aforementioned superstars and our level has dropped to theirs...hell, that is why half the NBA is foreign players now!...

There's a reason why scores of 120-115 were common in the 80's and are very rare now; it isn't because nobody can shoot, it's because the defense is way better.

Not hating on Bird but I wonder what happened to his 3pt shooting from age 24-27.

    Age 24 - 27%
    Age 25 - 21%
    Age 26 - 29%
    Age 27 - 25%

If Lebron played against the NBA players of the early 80's it would look like the SNL skit with Michael Jordan as the 1st black Harlem Globetrotter.
