Theo Eptstein Is Full of Shit

He says Kris Bryant not making the opening day roster is a baseball decision and not a business decision.

He says Bryant is not ready yet and needs more seasoning. Will post video shortly...

He said that because that is what you have to say in that situation. Astros did a similar thing with George Springer last year. He wants an extra year of control.

as a Cardinals fan I can see why you would say that.

Point is Kris Bryant can help the Cubs THIS YEAR!!!!!

The NL Central is very competitive and if the Cubs want to make the playoffs they can't afford to pull stunts like this.

9-10 games is all. Stupid to lose an entire year over 9-10 games on April. Epstein not stupid

why, so Bryant can play in the division for an extra year?

The guy will be in the big leagues by May.

Maybe cardinal fans are smarter than guys who think the Rockies are going to the World Series.

Epstein has never started the season with a prospect getting his first ab in the starting lineup. He prefers them to get called up during the flow of the season

watch them miss the playoffs by less than 9-10 games.

Cubs are desperate man. Its not like they are the San Francisco Giants with 3 World Series rings in the past 6 years.

If I were a Cubs fan, I would back the move. It would only be a couple of weeks, while you gain an extra year of control when he is in his prime. Its been a hundred zillion years since their last championship anyway. What's a couple of more weeks, when you have 5 teams out of 15 that can qualify for the playoffs?

Calm down, what's he going to say? 'This is a business decision.'

It's the right move. People need to let it go. On April 17th, it won't matter.

to say that Bryant needs more seasoning is insult to everyones intelligence.

guy leads MLB in spring training homers and he hit 41 HR's in the Minor Leagues last year so he has absolutely nothing left to prove in the Minor Leagues.

To not have Bryant on the Opening Day roster just proves that the Cubs will not do what it takes to put a World Series contender on the field.

Cubs aren't going to win it all in 2015 most likely anyway. 2016-2021 are the prime years. Should be one of the 4-5 favorites to win it all during that time period. Why waste one of the prime years for 8 games potentially?

theo's decision is right, bear. thankfully you never became a GM. your lack of knowledge about baseball is astounding. you don't know how to bet, you don't know the rules about that extra year or you would give it up for 2 weeks of 2015 instead of an extra year at the end. go back into hibernation, please...

I am tired of people thinking the cubs have a chance to win their division. IMO they aren't nearly as good as the cards or pirates.

Might gain a year of extra control but I can guarantee he will remember this and never stay with the cubs when he's a free agent. So when he's in his prime he will be somewhere else.

so you think with Bryant the Cubs will go 9-0 or 10-0 but without them they might go 0-9 or 0-10?

do you think his WAR will be 162 for a full year?

better to have to trade him in 5-6 years instead of 4-5 years from now

that extra year will be a huge year to have him, in the market at that time, he might be worth 40-50 million per year

Royals Front Office played the same game with Hosmer, Moustakas, Wil Myers etc and others. If you looked at other MLB teams you'll find they all "protect" themselves to the max extent because of the investment they've put into the players. It comes down to spots vs options vs who's ready for opening day etc. KC has Christian Colon who should make the Opening Day roster but might not just because he's the only guy with options available down to Omaha that won't force them to lose a player they want to keep on the active roster why he temporarily hangs out in AAA

the Cubs play in Colorado early on in the season for a 3 game set. That's potentially 5 home runs in that series alone if he is on the roster. Guy should be hitting clean-up the 3-4-5 should look like

The decision is right, but Theo is definitely lying about the rationale. I guess he thinks he has to. I think he should have nipped it in the bud months ago and said he'd start 2 weeks at AAA minimum because of contract issues. Take a beating then and it's a non-story now.

Guy doesn't have the glove to play 3rd yet

while it doesn't matter since his bat should more than make up for it.

so while we all know Theo HAS to say he needs more seasoning... There is an element of truth to it in regards to defense.

162 games is a long season for these college guys that advance rapidly thru the minors

the cubs play a bit more day games in the sun... It can wear you down .

Last year Bryant played 138 games, you want him fresh for October. Pennants are not won in April.

but yeah I think the majority of cubs fans see that extra year as huge... As the window for the cubs should be open for at least 5-6 years and most didn't even think it would open until 2016. Thus year is kind if a bonus

Put a little trust in the Brain trust that got them here.

Professional sports is about making a profit first/foremost. Who gives a shit if they make the playoffs? People are too stupid to change their allegiance if their team sucks for 20 yrs, so why worry about anything more than lining your pockets?
