Does Russell Wilson deserve to be the highest-paid player in the NFL?

Apparently he and his agent think he should be.

I think he's pretty good, but I'm not sure he's that good. He is greatly assisted by a great defense, and a great running game. I'm not sure his talents would translate as effectively elsewhere.

Heading into the 2015 season I currently have him ranked #5 on my quarterback Big Board.

Maybe but how much did he get paid for his services so far in his career? Also how much is he going to get this year if he doesn't get a new deal?

The Seahawks should trade Wilson now while he still has value; when that defense goes, he'll turn into RGIII.

Wow. Lot of hate in this thread.

I'm all about "value" and consistency in an athlete.

You know who Russell Wilson reminds me of? Different moments in crucial areas of the game??? Tom Brady.

Tom Brady statistic wise has to be somewhat near Russell Wilson.. (age wise).

Wilson has speed... has decent accuracy. One of the best 3rd down percentages in the NFL. Manages the game extremely well. He's like Tom Brady again.... (age wise).

He's professional on and off the field. It might be all a show... but he knows what to do to make the big coin in front of the cameras. If Seattle won't pay him... there will be an owner that will pay him MAX DEAL. It's inevitable. No brainer actually.

You guys don't think I'm pissed off at that 1 yd play? I lost 2k. Why must you make me relive that nightmare?

So are we going to judge Wilson on just one play? Regardless if you like it or not... NFL is entertainment... Kahn... you know it... Bite you know it... and an owner will pay him whatever he wants.

Not one owner is judging him on that 1 yd line play. Only gamblers are.

Wilson is a winning player... 100%.

He's going to get (deservedly) a shitload of $$$... 100%
BUT... he's not gonna get highest paid player in the league money. Oh no siree, Bob.

That's just classic agent posturing... just doing his job.

I'm judging him in totality, not just that play (altho, Tom Brady NEVER makes that play... not anywhere in any multiverse).

He's a very good/smart player... but no team would give him highest paid player in league money and have him eat that much of the cap. (Well, ok... maybe some idiot franchise like the Browns but even that's pushing it).

BOTTOM LINE: He'll eventually sign a very lucrative contract to stay in Seattle but won't be highest paid in league.

    lol cam is a loser?

not that i like the guy but you replace cam with russell wilson and i seattle does just as well or even better.

you replace russell wilson with aaron rogers, you'd have a dynasty.

and he wants to be paid more than aaron rodgers? there's no way he should be the highest paid qb.

    NFL's highest-paid quarterbacks

Quarterbacks Average salary wins in 2014
    1 Aaron Rodgers $22M 12
    2 Matt Ryan $20.75M 6
    3 Joe Flacco $20.1M 10
    4 Drew Brees $20M 7
    5 Peyton Manning $19.2M 12
    6 Colin Kaepernick $19M 8
    7 Jay Cutler $18.1M 5
    8 Tony Romo $18M 12
    9 Matthew Stafford $17.6M 11
    10 Alex Smith $17M 8
    11 Carson Palmer $16.5M 6
    12 Eli Manning $16.25M 6
    13 Andy Dalton $16M 10
    14 Philip Rivers $15.3M 9
    15 Ben Roethlisberger $14.6M 11
    16 Tom Brady $14.1M 12
    17 Sam Bradford $13M 0
    18 Matt Schaub $6.75M 0
    19 Andrew Luck $5.53M 11
    20 Cam Newton $5.5M 5
    21 Kyle Orton $5.45M 7
    22 Robert Griffin III $5.3M 2
    23 Matt Cassel $5.25M 1
    24 Blake Bortles $5.16M 3
    25 Josh McCown $5M 1

well this was last year. looking at those numbers, if kaepernick is getting 19mil, russell should get more than that.

but seattle offered him the same contract as cam newton which was ~100 for 5 years. that's 20mil a year. so he basically wants 23mil a year?

Cam Newton hasn't proven anything in the playoffs to me. There are some bonehead plays that he made to. Guy is just inconsistent. He's athletic.... but I don't think he gives it all he can every play. If I was an NFL GM for a team... honestly...Cam Newton would be probably the last 5 from the bottom of starting QB's I'd pick.

I'm just saying... there's a lot of similarities between the 2 at a young age. Let's see what Russel Wilson does this year... if he gets to the Super Bowl again... I'd day that's pretty spectacular. Now.... if he wins... he's definitely on pace like Tom Brady.

They've been the benefactors of some of the best drafting over the last few years, building a quality team around a good QB on his rookie deal is great in terms of cap management. This will hurt their ability to resign Wagner.

You'd think Manning would only really care about winning, dude doesn't need $$$. Why not restructure and help the team resign/acquire quality players to surround himself with.

well lets see he was the only QB in the NFL to throw an INT from the 1 Yard Line.

I would think what he deserves is to play to a full season without pay. He single handedly lost the Seahawks the Super Bowl.

So no to answer your question it would be an absolute crime if he is even one of the top 5 highest paid players on his team.

    Lynch
    Sherman
    Okung
    Chancelor
    Thomas

are all more important to the seahawks success than Wilson.

and foreal if that lil bitch and his agent are saying this than if i was Pete Carol i would just str8 up release him.

The audacity of that prick to even think about asking for a raise after costing his team the super bowl... if i was his teammate i would beat his ass in the locker room.

    Cam Newton.

He is faster and has a better arm. And he is bigger.

Cam has just played for a team with no offensive line and no weapons around him and he doesnt get luxury of playing with a hall of fame defense and a hall of fame coach.
