    So many guys never played ball like myself and really don't know the qualifications for a Hall of Fame type player leave this type of thread to the professionals like myself

    What if the voting were done by current and ex players only? I would respect that more than sportswriters who think they know everything.

    Cigarettes and alcohol a bad example. But amphetamines aren't, and plenty of old timers used those. Wake me up when Posada says the same about his battery mate Andy Pettitte.

    I think they would be more fair than the present systems. Managers vote for managers? announcers vote for announcers??? Probably would be a horrible bias in some cases - Yankees wouldn't vote for a Red Sox, etc. Pretty hard to get to a system that is not agenda motivated.

    Only good guys get in? How about schmucks that everybody dislikes but their performances on the field were deserving?

    Managers and coaches voted Rafael Palmeiro a Gold Glove award even though he played 128 games as a DH and 28 at 1b. Players wouldn't be much better.

    They probably will not get in although it means hall of fame watered down without Rose, Bonds and A-Rod..3 all time greats
