Leaving last leg off completely > Middling > Hedging
Hedging is always the worst option, but you can occasionally gain EV by trying for a middle. Like if the line on that last leg has moved in your favor. Say your last leg was Cavs -3 @ Bulls. Gametime comes and line moved to Cavs -5/Bulls +5. Now you take Bulls +5 and can win both or win one and push the other. You have 3 winning margins to hit the middle with, one of which gives you both bets, and two of which give you a win and a push. The 3 possible margins more than make up for the juice, so your EV has actually grown in this case. I always go for a middle over hedging. If you plan on putting something on both sides when the last game comes up, just leave it off completely as these types of middle opportunities don't come often.
